I spent 4 nights at the Best Western Downtown over Super Bowl weekend.
It's located at Ave 7 & Calle 6. It is only about 7 blocks from ZB, about 9 blocks from the Del Rey and 11 blocks from Sportsmen's Lodge.

It's a little inconvenient to have to take a taxi everywhere but if the weather is nice (daytime only) it's not too bad.

It was a package deal through Expedia (I had a $150 coupon) and it was the best deal offered within the downtown area. The hotel itself is OK. The front desk people are helpful and speak English.

The area is "ROUGH". You wouldn't want to venture out at night. I did walk back from Club Monaco at about 2:00 AM one morning but it's just around the corner and I moved at a quick pace.

The room was adequate with a queen bed and A/C, plenty of strong, hot water and a digital safe. The elevator is a little slow so I often chose to walk down from the 4th floor. 1 chair and color TV. It also had an iron and ironing board which is something I would like the Prez to include.

My room was on the "outside" facing the road but on the 4th floor so between my loud window A/C and ear plugs I didn't have any problems with noise.

The room included breakfast. There are 4 selections. The "American" breakfast included 2 eggs, 1 slice of bacon, which they forgot the 2nd day and 1 slice of toast. There was also self-service juice and coffee.
I'm not a big guy but I like a big breakfast and I usually don't eat again until dinner. I opted to eat at the Prez the 3rd and 4th days.

You could also get a daily free drink coupon from the front desk.

You sign in the chicas at the front desk. I don't know if there is a limit.

They offer a free shuttle to the airport if you want to leave on their schedule (two examples are 11:30AM or 1PM, but there are others). You have to reserve a spot at least 1 day before as the shuttle comes from the airport.

At around $55 + tax a night it is an OK alternative if you can't find a room closer to the gulch.

Yes, there is a pool.
Sorry I didn't mention it but I never actually saw it, only the palm trees. My room was on the other side of the building.

For some strange reason it won't let me post the direct link. Just click on this link and request San Jose, Costa Rica.

Do you remember if there were connecting rooms. You know the kind that have a double door between them that create a two room hotel room with interior access? Thanks for the info if you have it.

I have a special situation in CR with young Ch*ldren that I haven't seen in awhile but want to have seperate adjoining rooms for mi mujer (that I haven't seen in awhile either) y yo in one and the K*ds in the other at night.

The pool is key as the K*ds love la picsina plus it helps to tire them out along with restaurant room service so they go down early and Mom and I can enjoy the rest of the evening, late night, and wee hours yet hear the K*ds too...Gracias.

I don't recall since it was a year ago and I didn't need an adjoining room, BUT, the more I think about it there might have been a connecting door.

I suggest you give them a call.
