I'm moving to SJ for 6 months and would like to poll the group on the best neighborhood to live in. I'm especially interested in local opinions. My tico friend seems to feel that Los Yoses is perfect for me. Here are some quick characteristics that I'm looking for.

1. Close to the Gulch. I don't want to have to walk more than 15 minutes.

2. Close to good spanish schools

3. Cheap but safe

Thanks brothers!

I think Escazu is the nicest, safe and nice places to eat and drink. It costs more but you get what you pay for. My favorite place is actually a small town about an hour from San Jose, named Cartago. It is in the mountains a little but very nice, very clean. Has not been ruined (yet) but I would say in five years it will see the same fate as Heredia, a nice small town that gets overrun and turns to shit. I sure hope not, I really like that place and the people were actually friendly.
