I just booked a flight for SuperBowl weekend 2/3-2/6 using frequent flyer miles. I'm coming down with a buddy and we are trying to book a hotel near the weekend action. All of the usual suspects are sold out including the Castillo. I sent an E-Mail to Nixon and I am awaiting his response.

I tried doing a search about the Hemingway and did not get much info about it. I like the location (right next door to the Castillo). Does anyone have any up to date info about the Hemingway:
1. Is it Chica Friendly?
2. Is there a guest fee? I don't mind paying a $10.00 fee  but is bringing back a chica ok or is it a big pain in the ass there?

I'm hoping Nixon comes through and I will get 2 junior suites there but if anyone can help with the Hemingway inquiry, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks - Broadway

Broadway,

I stayed at the Hemingway about a year ago. At that time, you could bring a chica to the hotel for a $10.00 fee. They may have eliminated the fee since then, as I think I had read something on their website fairly recently that indicated this.

While you can bring chicas to the hotel, be advised that the Hemingway has many clients that are of the family and eco-tourist variety, which at times can make for some awkward situations in regard to bringing a chica to the hotel [the walk of shame].

I can tell you a lot about the Hemingway.. I've stayed a bunch. I have a friend that works the front desk that will give you as good a deal as possible. It's really a cool hotel to me. I stay there a couple nights and then the castillo or Sportsmens some too. It's an excellent location.

Give a call and ask for Victor at around 3pm-9pm their time. Tell him you're a friend of David in Atlanta and I referred you.

The rooms are not as nice as the Castillo or Sportsmens but it's suitable and the hotel actually has much more atmosphere than either of the two at times.. See if he'll get one of you a deal on Room 4 and the other a deal on room 15 upstairs if it's available at a good price. 4 or 15 will actually impress the chicas a little. If not 4 or 15 tell them to give you the best that's available otherwise- don't take 5 or 7. There's another room upstairs that has 5 beds in it and two of you could share because it's actually two rooms. I think that's room 16. You could ask him about that also unless that's too close for comfort.

Zebra's right about the environment but the staff is super friendly and honest and if you're bringing them after 9pm nobody is around and the front desk guys love to see your catch.

Their breakfast is actually pretty good and free- french bread, real butter, cheese, banana bread, eggs, rice and beans, pineapple, papaya, cantelope, native tamales, juices, coffee.

They have a large jacuzzi that I don't use.

You should be able to get a room with chicas included for about $42 plus tax.

Used to stay there in '99 and 2000 sometimes and it was ok. Stayed there the last time in '04 and you couldn't PAY me to stay there again!!!

Dirty, noisy and expensive compared to Castillo or Morazan.

Just my dos colones :)
