You have excellent point. I grew up right across the river from Ashland KY. I am Catholic and when I was younger some of the girls I wanted to date were not allowed to go out with me because I was Catholic. There is a prejudice here toward Catholicism. I don't think it would be a problem though because there are Catholic Churches around and the prejudice is usually only shown when you want to date their daughter? They are good at hiding it most of the time. You might have a problem with your family if you have Ch*ldren as your new bride will undoubtedly want to raise them Catholic. Redman is right it is something to think about.

I think you are forgetting two very major problems. t\The first is that I dont think many latinas are going to fit in around Huntington/Ashland. The second is that even if you marry one it is difficult to bring them back to the states.

If you marry one, it is not difficult to bring her here. You only have to follow a process. It is actually easy to bring one with a fiance visa so you don't have to marry her to get her here though the fiancee visa process takes around 5 months (last I was informed) so you have to be serious. It is easier to try Traylor Parks' way of getting her here on a visitor visa, but if that doesn't work then fiance visa is your next option. You have 90 days to marry her if she is here on a fiance visa or else send her home.

I was only referring to the religious aspects of this conversation. Your right about that they may not fit in around this area, but except for the southwest US where would they fit in? There is a large and growing Latino population everywhere in the US even here. It is just a matter of time. Granted it will be far slower to reach this area but in the major metropolitan areas of every state have a growing population of Latino's. If they are illegal they try to get away from the areas most scrutinized by immigration. That’s why we have so many illegal workers in the Myrtle Beach SC area.

Here is what I believe one has to do to have a successful marriage & make it work well if you bring one back to the USA.

1. The obvious both people stable & in real love with no drug or alcohol addictions.

2. The Latina needs to be from a good back ground & not a PUTA!!!!

3. You need some extra money to float this boat right. You can not economically cage a human being like an animal & expect it to work well.

4. They are making a huge transition not like you. They are giving up family, Friends & the culture many love. To normalize this you have to do this to get over the hump & keep them happy. That is bring her mother up to stay at least 1 or 2 months a year & she will need to return there at least this much time so it is not such a knee jerk reaction for them. Eventually they wean away from this & learn to love you & where you are living but you have to have several years of the above to make it smoother for them.

5. You have to be a good boy & never get caught with another woman!!

6. If there is a big noticeable age difference be prepared how to deal with this. You can not fight it learn to embrace it.

Really re-read what Dwayne posted & do some long range projecting & thinking he is really on tract with his ideas!

PS as far as what others think who cares since they don't pay your bills but if it affects you a lot in a small community be prepared for the fallout!

Also always use your test drive wisely (fiancé visa).

Let me clarify. I didn't mean it was easy to get a visitors visa. The process is easy and quick as compared to the fiance visa since with the visitor visa she is acting alone so much less complicated. Now, getting approved isn't easy. It is a shot in the dark - sometimes it comes down to the mood of the officer that does the interview. This is why I said to do it TPs way - prepare for convincing.

Don't just go there without money in her account as well other things TP said. She'll have a better chance, but not a guarantee. The reason I say that this is easy is that it is easy to try - you can go to the embassy after making an appointment (usually they're quick) and see if they approve. If they don't approve then you have to go the more complicated fiance route.

A friend of mine has recently been through all of this with a woman from the Phillipines and this is how he described what he did.

I looked into a visitors visa to have my nica novia come up for a stint, at least from managua, all you have to do is show that she has property, family, and a high paying job, in other words more to lose by staying in the states than she will gain. Oh, and she cannot have ever been registered as a legal prostitute.

dapanz1: I never heard of the purchase option. It could be true, but I've never heard of it. That would be another way to do it - maybe not purchase - but say lease a visa. Sorry - no real answer for you on this one except that I've never heard of purchasing a visa.

They make the fiance visa such that it is in most cases guaranteed, however they probably add the time factor to insure there is likely some love in the relationship. There are fees and time so.....
