I was in Costa Rica for the first time recently. I rent a car and travelled from San Jose to Jaco, from there to Tamarindo and back to San Jose while visiting some vulcano's on the way to SJ. The whole thing took me 5 days, at a no hurry pace and including a lot of sight seeing. I would like to go to Tortuguero during my next trip. Although there are only 83 miles, locals told me it was also a 5 days trip. Any experience someone?

Thanks.

Tripel

It is a five hour trip over some rocky pot hole roads.

I advise take a tour or hire a driver but I would not take a rental car which is bound to be scratched and dented by the stones on the road. Also it is tricky to navigate and there are no gas stations that I remember.
