guy, we're all complaining about the airfares. All I can say is we need to be firm and not pay those rediculous fares.

I've been inputting different dates and I believe my theory will be proven correct, don't buy and the fares will come down because as the date approaches and the seats are unfilled the prices will drop. Case in point, I've been wanting to come down in February 18 or 19 thru feb 26. Fares are quotes at $1000 roughly, BWI thru MIA to SJO. But I've noticed flight on Jan 24 returning to BWI on feb1 was quoted at $501, icl tax, on AA.

This confirms that if we do not buy now, be patient, and the fare price will have to come down, becaus eAA won't let the plane fly empty.

That sounds good in theory, but we have about as much chance to lower airfare prices as we do DR/BM chicas' cien asking price. We just don't have the volume to do it. We make up a very small percentage of CR air travellers, as well as DR/BM clientelle.

Even with that in mind, I'm not booking a flight until closer to my May travel date. The prices may increase, but not too much, and chances are better that they will decrease, if planes aren't filling up.

i find that booking a flight three days in advance is usually your best bet. try this experiment pick a flight/date two weeks, then one week, then three days and same day and see what i'm talking about. at least that has been my experience. one of the best flights i've got on a same day deal was through TACA. it was 4pm and i was checking fares and found one for 2am the next tday for $386. i stuffed my carry-on bag and jumped on the train to O'hare and was off to CR with no hotel reservations. hit san jose and checked into a studio at the presidente for $42 a night.

Orange nailed that one. The analogy with effecting the cien at the BM is right on. Numbers are power and we do not have the numbers to move the price point at the BM or with the airlines.

Ive seen multiple deals for various dates. Just check the sites often and something will come up.

Airlines arent stupid, they arent going to risk a whole clientelle just to make some extra bucks at the moment. Go to the various websites and sign up for hte frequent flyer notifications and such.

Usually the deals only last about a day, and are intended for FF travelers, but if you luck out and happen to be browsing the site at the right time; take it.

At this point in time, expedia, travelocity etc arent going to be your best source for low fares. Your gonna' have to go right to the source and hope one of the airliners ( continental, taca/lasca, AA, United?) has a sale

guys, I know we do not have the volume to affect the price of the tickets by ourselves. But we should be able to influence the girls in the DR/KL.

Although I've seen it myself, guys from the states that haven't had a girl in weeks/months/years get in there(DR/KL) and can't give their money away fast enough.....

but in general, as travelers, we should balk at those fares, I know fuel prices have increased, but what AA had done thru Miami is rediculous, I checked Delta and the fares are in the 500 to 700 area...

Do not mean to hijack this thread but how do you figure we can influence the BM/KL price?

Please do not give me the 5000 plus membership argument. 3900 of those 5000 plus members have never posted here or most likely ever set foot in the BM/KL.

So how can CRT influence the price?

That all sounds good (in theory), but on my last 3 trips (August '05, October '05, and November '05) the AA flight from Miami to SJO was full. Not a single seat available, all three flights. People on stand-by were turned away.

You can wait, and watch airfare prices, and possibly snatch a good deal at any given time, but you must also monitor the 'available seats'. I always book 6 - 8 weeks in advance, and I've been lucky to get reasonable airfares. But, after I book my trip, I still monitor the seats, and watch them fill up, more and more, day by day.

Wait it out, and try to find the best price, but also be careful, as the flight might fill up, and then you're SOL ! YMMV.

Ding Dong,

I've often wondered how many of the CRT registered users are active. Did you actually do a count, or do a search, of the number of members with 0 posts?

I just looked it up:

5618 = Total membership

4001 = members with 0 posts

5008 = members with 10 or less posts

Thanks Orange. That last number I had (3900) was from when I looked it up a little while ago.

Before anyone thinks they can affect the price of airfare by waiting until the last minute I suggest you read this:

For those who live in the NJ/NY area, and would like a quickie Pre-Super Bowl weekend in SJ...

Continental is offering a non-stop flight out of Newark on Saturday, 1/28 (only) with a return on either Monday (1/30) or Tuesday (1/31) for "only" $446 (about $503 with tax/fees).

Too short for me...but, with minimal expenses for 2 or 3 nights lodging... it may be a good deal for the budget-minded traveler who needs a quick fix.
