As mentioned, Flor de Cana and Centenario will have to suffice, but if you absolutely have to sail with the Captain, Wacky Wanda's in Quepos usually has it. Wanda brings a number of liquors in from Fla every month that you would not normally see in CR

La Guagua is a decent place. Not too expensive (not dirt cheap either) and they give you good sized portions. Definitely a good choice to get your Cuban food fix.

Inquiring stomachs want to know… :D

Mendobrew,

Read the entire thread. Some of your questions are answered in previous posts.

Paco, thanks for providing that link. I am really looking foreward to trying these two places out. The menu sounds outstanding! Sorry for asking the newbie question but sense I still haven't been to SJ yet and all I have to go by is the "Getrythm 2005" map, where is the Itskazu plaza?

Also, for anyone that has been to either of the 2 places mentioned in this thread, are the menu's in English?

thanks in advance for the help!

It's about a 20 minute ride from the gulch in Escazu. I believe the taxi was around 3000 colones. I had dinner at an Italian restaurant (in the Plaza Itskatzu) on my last trip. The restaurant was called "Tutti Li". They had menu's for both. The waiter gave my chica a menu in Español, and gave me one in English. Real good Italian food. Nice atmosphere. There's also a Hooter's Restaurant and an Outback Steakhouse in the same plaza.
Buon' Apetit !!!

Plaza Itskazu is on the Prospero Fernandez Pista which runs west from Sabana Park to Santa Ana. It is almost directly across from PriceSmart and just east of Multi Plaza. It is about 8 to 10 kilometers from the gulch.

If you tell the taxi driver you want to go to Hospital Cima he should take the correct exit. It is the first exit after the toll booth and the plaza is on the right side just before you go under the auto pista and head back east to San Jose. Look for Hooters and Outback as they are right in the front part of Plaza Itskazu and very visible from the road.

Printed out the map and the menu from the website, so I should be ok as far as that goes.

Any problems getting a taxi from the restaurant back to the gulch? I am guessing they should be plentiful but would like to know for sure.

There's a Mariott Courtyard right next to Plaza Itzkatzu. You can catch a cab there.

Went there today after a great session @ Veronicas w/ a Nica named Patricia. Both were outstanding! For those of you who are not able to read the Espaniol menus they have an English version. I would recomend this soda as the others here who gave me a heads up on this place. Will try the one in the plaza this evening.

And BTW, the Flora de Cana 7 anos rocks!!!!

I've eaten at the Cuban Restaurant in the Plaza Itskatzu. The food was pretty good. I should know, my wife is Cuban. They have a display of cuban cigars. They are all fake.

Went to this rr last night. Side dishes were very good, the steak was a little dry. I'll try them one more time b4 I go, I may have caught them on a bad night.
