in a property (house, not just land) and your 2 choices were Jaco (or the immediate surrounding areas such as Herradura or Hermosa) or the other choice being Dominical (or nearby areas such as Matapolo--Uvita--Ojochal etc.) where would you rather place that investment? I'm torn.

Even though everybody rags on Jaco, for an investent, this area is exploding. Which can be a good or bad thing, depending on how you look at it. You might even look south of Jaco in Esterillos.

Jaco for sure, even without the new highway it is still reasonable driving distance to SJO

I totally concur. The area just north and south of Jaco are booming right now and will be a great investment for the next few years. Further south, past Quepos is, in my opinion, too far away from the necessary infrastructure to sustain any meaningful growth. The key is the anchor that the Marriott provides for the whole area; that's why I have invested strongly in this part of the country.

If you're just going to buy and hold some undeveloped land for five years or less then I'd go along that your odds are better in Jaco. If you're looking to invest in some kind of rental property then I think it totally depends on the property and the business plan and the people you have to partner with. Plenty of good and bad deals to be found in both places.

Jaco is booming right now! Will it last who knows it always seems to take people I know a long time to sell a house but Jaco might be different at this moment?

Someone recently also highly recommended the Nosara area. I don't know a whole lot about that area. Specifically they mentioned a place called Playa Guiones. If anybody has any opinions about that region I'd appreciate nowing about it.

Esterillos is definitely worth a look. I agree with thirdworld it will be a lot cheaper than Jaco and it is really growing fast. If you saw Jaco 20 years ago you wouldn't believe how much it has changed. I guess it just really depends on what you want. I hear there are some killer spots in Nicaragua too right on the beach. Tamorindo has so much crap going on atm you cant even see the beach from your car anymore at langosta and in my opinion it is already overcrowded.

There are some prime spots along the pacific in Guanacaste. The Samara area is where I am looking myself. Some people feel that this will be the next big booming area. It's not far from Nosara.

Esterillos and Bejuco may be extra attractive being in between Jaco and Quepos. And with that new marina in Quepos (I think it has been approved) in the future, I think the in between area will be lucrative. Love Playa Guiones. Way different than Jaco and Tamarindo. Much different crowd up there. A bit more sophisticated money up there.

There are some good investment options to the North also. Check out some prices in North / West Guanacaste, in the Golfo de Papagayo area. There's a big marina (350 - 400 slips) that's going to be built in that area, by the 4-Seasons Resort, just North of Playa Hermosa. You can still find reasonable prices if you look around. That whole (4-Seasons) area is a big dollar area.
Plus, it's easily accessible with the Liberia Airport less than 30 minutes away.

Jeez, the membership price here is worth it for the real estate info. Telling me about areas I'm not familiar with. I've really got to get out and see some other areas.

Some of the best (Real Estate) prices can be found on the Caribbean side of the country, i.e., Limon, Manzanillo, Puerto Viejo, Cahuita, Tortuguero, etc. But, IMHO, it'll take much longer for the property values to appreciate in those areas, as it's much quieter and less commercialized, comparatively speaking. Again, just my opinion........

Why not invest in 250,000 Columbiana's!
