Scott,
Although we've (CRT) got almost 5,500 members, we're still a very small percentage of the guys who monger in CR.

But I do think that HDR security does a good job, and I feel that, ultimately, they're looking out for all of us.

And, yes...... it's ok to tip the security guards once in a while. You'd be surprised what a difference it makes.

Pura Vida,

You'd be better off just going straight to management and telling him to phuck off, and hope that he changed his prices back

Jmac,
Go ahead and try this, then let us know how it works out for ya !!!!

That will work great. Last year I was sitting near the hotel entrance and all of a sudden I see most of the security team surround 3 gringos and kick them out of the hotel, suitcases and all. I walked up to the big old guy and asked him what happened, it was Big John the owner and he told me that he asked these guys who were checking into the hotel with out shirts to put on their shirts, the said to him, FU old man, remember this is CR not USA. He told me that those guys would not be even be allowed into the Blue Marlin.

A round of hearty applause for Big John. Costa Rica has enough "ugly Americans" without putting up with anymore.

that quote alone qualifies them as grade a a**holes who need to banned from CR not just the HDR

You guys are right... who really knows why some chicas are getting turned away. it could be for many reason and the best reason being that these chicas are known drug user and/or thiefs. i don't have a problem with people doing drugs, but from my experience "drug-addicts" usually resort to stealing in order to support their habits.

And long as "we" are safe from being victimized then security has to do what they have to do.

The security guards at KL and BM love my wingman, for whater reason. I don't know but they cater to his ass every time we're in CR.

I will remember to tip the security guys when i'm in BM on Sunday. They've always looked out for me when my drunk ass is getting more plata out of the cash station machine.

How much should i tip?

I've bought several of the security guards lunch before. They where really appreciative and will go the extra mile for you if there's a problem. One of these guys was the Mike Tyson look alike, not much english but very friendly once he gets to know ya. He'll tell you who to stay away from and etc. Hats off to these guys. Lionking

It actually makes some sense if you think about it.

They may intentionally turn the best looking chicas away.

When a chica comes in she sits at the bar for a couple hours, meets a guy and goes back to the Presidente with him. What did the HDR just make out of the deal?

Nada.

They make their money primarily from gambling profits. Some from drinks, food, and rooms, but there’s a reason Vegas comps rooms, sells food cheap, and gives drinks away. Gambling profits far outweigh all these other sources of revenue. The idea is to keep the guy at the tables as long as possible and let the odds do their job.

Maybe they have simply found that they keep the guys at the tables longer if they turn away the best looking chicas, or those that are too provocatively dressed. If they get just the right balance, girls that are seductive, but don’t make you pull the trigger immediately, you gamble more, and they maximize profits.

This may be a real bargain hunters opportunity, a girl that stuck at cien yesterday inside HDR might start quite a bit lower if you happened to meet her just outside after she was turned away.

Also, there are other places… :)

You may be correct in the assertion that there main profit comes from the casino but seeing the amount of action in the casino as opposed to the amount of bar activity in the BM I seriously doubt that you are accurate.

To compare the casino in the HDR to a Vegas casino is a real stretch of the imagination. The difference in the size of the casinos is dramatic and the amount of the handle is most likely enormous. That is why there are no real rated player action in the CR casinos and no comp suite, companions, restaurant meals, show tickets, etc.

There is no valid reason to keep the good looking chicas out. I think it has more to do with know behavior problems and they use any excuse possible. Slander laws are very liberal in Costa Rica and most businesses tread very carefully in making charges that are not ironclad.

You dont think they make money off drinks and food? Those girls drink Red Bull like theirs no tomorrow, guys pouring down Imperials. Surely they are making more then enough money to be happy off the drinks.

They dont need to keep the girls there. They come in, trick a guy into buying her some 5$ wine, or some 6$ Red Bull. Meanwhile hes drinking 1-2 Imperial, maybe a rum and coke or similar. When thats all said and done they go back to the hotel, and hour later the girl returns and does the same thing over again.

They are selling drinks on a very high magnitude, and the mark up on those things are huge.

Don't forget how many times a girl goes upstairs at $10 bucks a pop. I've watched some girls go-up and come down in 25 minutes. I think most of their money comes from the rooms and drinks, not the casino. Just my two-cents worth. Lionking

The incident about the mini-skirts was stupid. I sat and watched them do it over & over. The girls were complaining about it... and for good reason. Showing off thier legs is not indecent or at all slutty ... in most cases it's pretty damn hot! I think they change thier policies at will and decide from one night to the next which rules they are going to inforce. No real consistancy. The metal detector thing is a perfect example. I see them do this about 1 out of every 5 or 6 times I come in there. Could it be that this is just a way to keep thier jobs from becoming too routine? :?

Maybe they just want to give the impression that they're screening the girls. Sounds dumb, but then again everything in latin culture seems to be a false impression
