Has been a long time since I took statistics so perhaps my recollection is flawed. I thought you needed a cumulative number to arrive at the mean, median and mode.

Since there are 109 participants but only 44 replies to the post how did you arrive at the cumulative age? Did I forget a key element in statistics 101?

DD,
You are right. You cannot calculate an accurate mean (average) by using intervals. And you definitely cannot have a mode or median. You need a series of numbers for both. Median would be the middle age if you lined up all the ages in ascending order and mode would be the most frequent age. Neither can be calculated from intervals.

Did you guys know that 41.358% of stats are made up on the spot! What we have neglected, so far, is there is always a standard deviation, in that random sample, or not, some of us dont always tell the truth!

Ol junkyard dog got all you young pups beat,,, I am 350 years old....... Now thats 50 human years x 7-1 dog years ===== 350!!! And the ol dog aint what he used to be,, even with alpo he only got a lot of bark but not much bite left,,, so sad!! But he can still chase about 1 cat a day and will hop over to CR in 2 weeks for a month of cat chasin and loungin around. Ruff Ruff!!!

Speaking of statistics..look at that bar graph. Almost a perfect bell curve. As usual fellas, the law of large numbers bears the truth. One more category for over 70 and I'll bet it would have been perfect.
