I don't know how often you stay at the Copa, but if you are saying that there is no chica fee---Dude, you have no clue. There is a $20 chica fee, however, it depends on Tio Leo's mood whether he honors the CRT discount, and if there is an attendent after midnite

I have stayed at the paradise hotel i liked it becuase it was cheap and right across the street from the BB. I prefer to stay at hermosa beach when im in town better waves and alot prettier. I also always have a rental car and its only a 10 min drive.
The Terrazo del Pacifico has rooms that are pretty nice and a full breakfast buffet every morning for under 100 dollars. However they do now charge a chica charge of 10 dollars the year before they charged nothing maybe that had something to do with me giving the security guard beers when toting a hot one back from the beatle bar. There is also houses for rent in Hermosa I have never stayed in one yet but they seem pretty nice for the money.

Diablo: I think you had a bad experience that you won't let go of re: the Copa. Have stayed there several times and never was charged a fee or the fee was removed when I checked out once I showed my CRT card. I personally don't spend a total of 4 1/2 hours on a plane and then 2 hours in a van to jaco to then give a rat's ass about a hotel that costs a bit more. My group will continue to stay at the Copa. Just my 2 colones worth, dude. Wile Coyote

Personally I think the Copa is a nice hotel, no doubt. And I don't know Leo well, but he seems like a nice guy. It just seems like to me that it should be consistent. I heard the Bestwestern here has an enormous fee. I've been kicking around the idea of getting a house, offering it to members at a very reasonable price, and no chica fees on top of that. If I find the right spot, I'll post.

Making my virgin trip to CR in January. I just, like about 5 minutes ago, got off the phone with Barbara. She said the CRT discount and I quote, "is no longer valid because of an incident with some CRT mambers" I didn't ask specifics about the incident. Anyway, she said they only gave a 10% discount. I then asked her about "guest fees" and she said there was a fee.
Never been to CR, but want my 1st trip to be memorable and without incident. I read the thread about the Tangeri. Anybody have anything bad to say about the place? I'm leaning toward ending up there, on the beach, without fees, or an owner that changes hi mind about us according to the direction of the wind that day.

If exposing an establishment that charges premium prices for haphazard business practices, reoccurring mechanical failures(plumbing, in my case), and inherently poor construction(no sound insulation between rooms-not the suites) is holding a grudge--then EXCUSE ME. I just thought that it might prevent others from experiencing these same inconveniences.

Admin 1,

Look forward to hearing what courtesies we can expect from Leo and the Copa by using our CRT cards.

I ended up booking the Tangeri. Don't want to have to worry about whether there is discount or chica fees.

AS has been stated before on this subject...the discounts are not available during high season. The free chica fees are ONLY available via Leo. The booking office does not handle or make this decision. Yea...it´s informal, but that is much of Costa Rica tourism.

As to construction and noises etc...most hotels in Costa Rica...and especially Jaco...have these issues. Many of us still find the Copa to be the most convenient and friendly place to stay.

I will recontact Leo on these things when I return to CR Jan 6.

Meanwhile, relax and ...love the one youre with.

"Cancelled through the tourist season" What kind of shit is that? Ask Bill at the SL. Only person I've met down here who knows how to grow a bar business. You have to be consistent all the time in business. I'm getting pissed by bad business practices. Promise, as soon as the holidays are over and everybody is back in town, I will seriously try to talk some sense into some of these people.

As I mentioned, Barbara told me the discount was cancelled due to an "incident" involving CRT members. She didn't say anything about the tourist season. Sounds to me like they say different things to different people, inconsistent people don't get my business. All I've read are good things about the Tangeri, hopefully it will work out for me.
