Curious how much time it takes to get through customs and immigration at the new Terminal D (I think) at DFW? Perhaps more important how long it takes for your baggage to arrive? I'm getting ready to select a flight, with frequent flyer miles, and will only have a 1:12 layover (arrive 8:40pm) if I go through DFW (more convenient for Denver). My other choice is Miami with a 1:37 layover (arrive 8:13pm). I've made it with ~15 minutes to spare at Miami with only a 1:15 layover (plane was late). Even thought it seemed to take forever for my baggage to arrive at the carrousel. Hopefully the new terminal at DFW speeds things up a bit even though you have to change concourses for the domestic flight.

I went through DFW the first day the new Terminal opened (Oct 29) on one of the first flights, if not the first flight to use the terminal. But it wasn't a good test of how the Terminal will operate under normal conditions. I was the only one at immigration with five officers to choose from.

Thanks,

Do what ever you can to limit your baggage to carry-on. Often times, flights are delayed out of SJO and you will have little time to get to your connection (it has happened to me both times I've been to CR). It will take you an hour, at least if you chjeck luggage. If you can get by with carry-ons alone, you could probably clear cutsom in MIA and get to the gate in 45 min. Never been thru DFW, but MIA is the worst airport to get stranded in.

Midnightrider,

It's still early to tell you how the new terminal will handle the traffic. I have only one experience so far coming through the new terminal D, which by the way is really nice, flying in from Rio and landed at 6:00AM. There were only 5 immigration officers manning the booths and there were 3 flights from South America waiting in line. It took me about 15 minutes to finally get through and by the time I get down to the baggage claim area, my luggage was already there waiting. My line would have moved faster but it looked like 3 separate people did not have proper entry permit so they were escorted to the immigration office.
