It has come to my attention that one of our favorite barmaids daughter has been stuck with cancer. although some of the bills will be covered, it is my understanding that their will be great expenses incurred by her. I was wondering if their was anything we at CRT could do to help alleviate some of these costs. Maybe the administrators could put something together. I would be the first one to contribute and hope others on this board who know Cristina would follow.

I know Christina and think she is a great gal. This is this first I have heard about her problem. I would certainly be willing to help. However I think the initiative should come from the Del Rey where she has worked for many years, instead of CRT. I would be willing to talk to Greg (NOT JOHN) about how we feel,or someone else could speak with him about starting something.

Yeah, she was telling Traylor Park and I her daughter has throat cancer.

Its quite sad, and even though I havent known her that long or that well, Im still touched by it.

At the same time, people of 3rd world counties truely amaze me. Not once during the conversation did she break down, nor did she start crying. She just thanked God that her and her K*ds were alive each and every day.

She never mentioned anything about costs, but if someone found out some info I think she'd be really thankful if CRT helped out

No problems with helping...but remember, healthcare in Costa Rica is pretty much free. There may be some special treatments not covered...but not very many. I also think the Delrey by law must provide this kind of coverage for employees. Just a word of caution before everyone starts sending checks...

I think that everyone of us that knows Christina wishes her well. She is a sweetheart, hardworking and a little loca. It's always hard to believe her age and that she is a grandmother. There isn't many like her and add in her beauty, wow.

T-MAM wrote" health care is pretty much free in Costa Rica" This is true. Every Costa Rican is covered under the caja. However the caja is overwhelmed. With the influx of nicas who are readily accepted by the system, and the lack of funds to build more heath care facilities it can be months before receiving treatment. For example, the hospital in my area, San Ramon is now forced to treat 8 times more pacients than it was designed for when it was constructed. I have known people over the years that have died waiting for operations or treatment. The wait times can be months berfore treatments. Just something to be considered.

The public health care in CR is not great. Her daughter would do better in a private hospital like Clinica Biblica. Anyway, I would be glad to help, but I think everyone should know that the bartenders make approx $1000 per week. I have a very good friend who is a BM bartender, and this comes from her. That's 52K in a country that probably averages about $4-5K. Christina also is available for services on the other side of the bar. So, Christina is doing OK, and the medical expenses in CR are far and away less costly (even private) than what we are used to. I guess what I'm trying to say is that it would be nice to help her out, but I wouldn't dig too deep.

Gringostarr has it 100% right on the earnings and the extra; so I wouldn't in this case go overboard. If anyone should be able to afford good, it is her.
