I'm telling you guys pay a little extra for annual fee and get the double miles. Double miles using AMEX Gold Preferred Plus, good on Delta. Also, you can get double miles on the AAadvantage Card.

I just upgraded my bronze AAdvantage (no annual fee) card to the Gold ($50 annual fee).

Bronze: 1 mile for every $2 spent
Gold: 1 mile for every $1 spent

I originally was against paying a fee, never have before, but I did the math and it will pay off in the long run.

I just signed up for my second card today. It seems to be a good deal but, I think the annual fee for the platinum is 85 bucks. 85 bucks for 20k miles. hella worth it.

The fee on AAlines card is waved for the fisrt year so I will likey not keep the third card for a year.Even at $85, 20,000 miles is just about a free ticket to several places in South America, a great deal.rbc100

I thought I was just upgrading to gold, but apperantly I applied for the gold separately, so now I have 2. I just got my gold card this week. I already have the bronze. Does anybody know, if you have more than 1, do you get to keep the free bonus miles they give you when you sign up (5,000 bronze, 12,500 gold) even if you cancel the card in the first year?

I'm probably going to close my bronze card and combine the credit line with the gold. Hopefully, I'll get to keep the 17,500 miles just for signing up for both cards. I'll be half way to a free ticket to SJO.

Thanks for the replies and good info.

By the way, note the fee for using the card in CR:

Foreign Purchase Transaction fee: 3% of purchase amount after its conversion into U.S. dollars.

AA offers 20,000 bonus miles for signing up a Platinum level card from the aa.com website with no annual fee the first year. I just got the card and the 20k miles is mine. You do also get 1 mile per $1 spent. I'll probably cancel before the year ends.

AA has another milage offer that I like. If you go to this website:

http://www.aadvantageeshopping.com/

There are over 50 online retailers offering multiple miles per $1 spent shopping regardless of how you pay. If you pay with your AA card you can double, triple or even 5x dip on each dollar spent.

Enjoy!

So i've been reading it on flytalk and the general consensus over there that you can cancel this special promotion before the year. You won't be charge the $85 annual if done before the first year is up. Is that what you planning on doing. Cause if it works I might as wells cancel mine before the first year. I already have a AA gold mastercard, not sure if i really need 2 cards. Yet at the same token $85 for 20k miles is a steal regardless. I would suggest more to catch it while they can. I've read flyertalk people suggesting not to open and close to many AA CC account. You might be blacklisted if they suspecting you of trying to rack up miles.

I will cancel mine before the first year ends. Highly doubt they would blacklist for doing it just once. And if they do, just what is my damage? I don't use the card heavily anyway and have others at 0% that I prefer.

Notice there are now all these shopping sites where you can pay any way you want and still get AA miles for your purchases.

From what i've read you won't get blacklisted unless you ran through more than 2-3 in 1 year (general consensus speaking). I think you can apply and cancel within a year with 3 cards. I havn't heard of a exact number but, I think anything more than 2 is bad. 2 in one year is already is noticable. Thats like 30-40k miles. Enough to go to SJO from my neck of the woods.

Orange, Thats my only gripe with this card. The foreign transaction charge is stupid. Why do this on a travelers card? can't make a cents out of a penny.

MBNA has miles programs available on all airlines. No blackout dates and I THINK the foreign transaction fee is only 2%.

I had good day yesterday when my third AAdvantage credit card arrived good for 20000 bonus miles.Just about a free trip to South America.
On charging out of coutry I seldom do it as you never are sure about hidden fees and in San Jose I would prfer not to take the risk of even carrying a credit card on the street.I always carry starter cash and use ATM after that.Seems you get the most for your dollar that way. However at home I charge everything I can both personal and business.rbc100

Three cards? Well done fellas! Have you applied under the same exact name and address? Or different versions of your name? I'm considering doing multiple cards as well.

Thanks! CalaGuy

Being a Miles whore that I am another great tool is if you have Citi bank in your city close to you they are one of the only banks that offers miles for DEBIT CARD TRANSACTIONS.... you can get a debit card from them and gain miles as well.. 1 mile for 2 dollars spent free 1 for 1 there is an annual fee....
