OUCH I've never paid over $250RT so when I saw TACA's "SALE" at $480 I checked AA.

For Mid-December it is $520, January $450.

What happened? Ya I know this is another boring post bitching about airfares, but gas is back to 2.40/gallon down here....

That seems a bit high. I just checked expedia.ca, mind you thats CDN rates. I was quoted around 830$ from Halifax - New York - Miami - San Jose with various combinations of carriers.

So thats around $690 with an estimated calculation so take that 690 - 520 = 170.

With that all broken down that would mean Im paying 85$ each way from Halifax to Miami.

With that all being said, that quota for MIA to SJO seems rather high.

You bet it seems high I started trips to sjo 3 years ago and remember the $192 specials.

I went straight to the aa.com site and plugged in dates through sept 2006 and the best rate was $411.

Must be a combination of monger-fueled demand, high fuel costs, and with Delta going under less competition.

Also there was a US Air flite out of Ft lauderdale which was ceased.

Curacao and Aruba is looking very good for $300 lol.

Is their any real break with the prices, or trends that the fares follow? Im looking to catch a flight to CR in about 1.5-2 months time, and I dont know if its best to book now, or wait until it gets closer.

I usually book through expedia, or travelocity as I like being able to see everything right there.

After looking at it though and plugging in a few dates Im getting fares ranging from 850-1400$ depending which day of the week I leave.

Really, all you can do is check the travel websites on a daily basis, looking for that special deal. I started looking a month ago for a January trip and was fortunate to get a one day deal with USAIRWAYS......$338.00 roundtrip, total, including taxes and fees from Washington/Dulles.

I think part of it is XMAS hype. Let New Years pass and they should drop.

The fares 'yo-yo' on a bi/tri monthly basis. Give it time, it will come down again.

Tequila69...as you're flying thru Madrid, I assume you're flying on Iberia.
I didn't think they had direct flights to San Jose. I thought they always went thru Miami.

Iberia does have direct to Madrid. My buddy, Mente, is going to Spain and he's direct SJO to Madrid. As for you S.FL guys, no tears shed for you here. You've been spoiled!!! :-)

Iberia stopped transiting their Central American flights through Miami when the U.S. government halted the Transit Without Visa (TWOV) program a couple of years ago.
