I normally try to book my flights six or more months
in advance, but I was rather surprised to see that
the normal flight I take on US Airways, during the
months of June through July was $665.
That is more than I paid for my December ticket this year,
and over twice as much as I paid for my ticket
this past May. Any ideas as to what may be going on
in Costa Rica June-July of 2006?
I don't think it is the fuel increase, since the cost of
fuel is now below what it was before Katrina hit the Gulf Coast.

Airlines generally do not drop fares until about three months prior to the date of travel. Before that they cannot judge the load and figure they do not have to drop the price to fill the seats at that time. If seats are not sold fares drop until about a week or two prior and then they are steady or go up.

I could say that better by saying wait until three months or less before your flight to book.
