Apparently there's a problem with CRT- A Gentleman's Guide to Costa Rica -

The topic of simply behaving like a gentleman and the benefits of doing so are just not discussed anymore. It seems there are some newer members, (some that made their first trip 2 months ago and suddenly experts on everything) that apparently have never heard or grasped the gentleman concept which used to be frequently discussed.
Sure it's easy to jump on them but isn't it really a failure of the forum as a whole, especially the older members?(including myself) When I joined (way back when) it was discussed constantly and it became apparent before my first trip that there was an unwritten code of conduct, limits on bad behavior and most members were decent guys with some class, which became obvious when I actually met them in CR. It's the basic thing that sets CRT apart from other sites.

Sometimes it was as simple as being told the better I behave and treat the chicas, the better my experience will be- and I found it to be true.
I've added a couple threads to my Archives thread on the topic, (below-) There are some really old ones, trip reports from guys like Astroglide, KingCosta, Dallasman, Dino, Lurker, VB, that also discuss the benefits of behaving like a gentleman that I'll try and dig up later if anyone's interested. It's a shame those guys don't post much anymore, but perhaps it's time for us all to bring the topic to the forefront again (also in our trip reports) and set some guidelines (without getting into the petty bickering over semantics and finger pointing at the chicas) after all this is about our behavior.

Well said Paco-I completely agree that OUR behaviour determines exactly what kind of experience we have in CR. I have been told by several chicas that they will not go with some guys because of the way they treat the girls.And before someone tells me its all about the money I can categorically state that sometimes its not about the money- these chicas are people too and some are very are sensitive to the way they are treated by the gringos.

Kop & Mikey you are both right saying its not always about the money. When I was in MDE The girl that picked me up at the airport had her choice of about 10 guys that were bird dogging her when I went upstairs to take a shower. When I came down I was looking for plan B as she was surrounded. She had to owner of the mansion come and tell me she wanted to go upstairs now. Being the GENTLEMAN CRTer I am, how could I refuse. With all due respect to Duane., I must wholeheartedly disagree, and I take real offense at your characterization of your fellow hobbyists and working girls as being somehow of lower status and therefore, less deserving of respect.

I do not see myself as being low-life, simply because I choose to compensate women financially for spending time with me. I do not judge her as being low-life, and yes I do follow a Monger's Code of Ethics. Why? Because I don't want to screw myself or any other hobbyists with bad behavior toward even one girl.

When I was first trying out the hobby, I surreptitiously made an audio recording of the session. I subsequently made the recordings into a CD and presented it to the escort in question during our second visit. Fortunately, she and her husband (!) were both entertained and aroused by the recording; I subsequently traded an hour of my audio recording expertise for an hour of her time. Still, I made the recording without her advance consent.

I had all my high-tech portable audio recording gear with me when I visited C.R. in August-September, 2005. I never once used it to record a girl. Yes, I occasionally kick myself for not doing so, but I realize that photographing, videotaping, or recording anyone without her consent is a fundamental violation of her privacy, and is not acceptable. This wouldn't be acceptable if she was a public speaker or teacher, musician or singer. Whether or not she's a hooker makes no difference to this discussion of invasion of privacy...sorry Duane. You're full of feces.
