Just a thought....in your stays at these hotels, do you see any women checked into a room? I know the Presidente books families and such, but what about the Del Rey and the Sportsmen? Do we take up the majority or all the bookings ?

I have never noticed myself, but maybe those who spend more time in CR may have noticed.

If you mean the working women, the answer is no... they don't rent any rooms out at the SL or DR, they just grab a cab whenever they are ready to go home, or just grab one of us poor schmo's to take them for a TLN and thus a free room for them to sleep in.

If you mean like TOURIST women, well, it's funny that GR and I were just talking about that yesterday and we agreed that, NO, we've NEVER seen single tourist women staying at Del Rey or Sportsmans. I would tend to think that it would be much more feasible to see that at the Prez or Sportsmans, but very unlikely at the DR, unless they are in search of some lesbo-mongering.

In about 1997 or 1998 Adventures for Singles, an Atlanta tour group for singles booked the entire group of about 46 tourists, 50 per cent females and 50 per cent males, mostly over 45 yrs of age, into the Del Rey, This was done by mistake on advise of some local tour operator. Suzy, the tour leader from Atlanta, did not know better. I do not think she will ever live that down.

Some of the guys, including one buddy of mine, took advantage of the situation and "upgraded their room". The gringas were pissed.

How funny.

There were two loud, fat and obnoxious gringas staying at SL in January. Well maybe they weren't THAT bad...then again they are part of the reason I go to CR; to get away from them!
From a business standpoint I'm sure their $$$ are as green as anyone elses  8)

If they read the Lonely Planet hotel advisories, they will see that the description of the DR has been upgraded from "a flirtatious atmosphere" in a previous edition to something more frank.

Back last February there was a tour of the DelRey by US Travel Agents checking out properties for their clients. See the following for full details

Needless to say I dont think that group will be recommending the DR anytime soon-at least not to married couples travelling together

I've seen many more non-worker women at the bar/restaurant of both the DR and SL than staying at the hotel. SL also serves as a neighborhood bar. I've often seen couples coming there from other small hotels in the neighborhood for food/drinks. The BM used to have several non-working gringas who spent a lot of time there, but they mostly left when the brothers crashed and Jay died.
