Had called sportsman lodge and couple other hotels from my US home.
Was suprised it cost over $5.00 a minute.
Even more suprising was that the hotel in Costa Rica told me it only cost $1.00 a min to call to the US.

I have a couple of suggestions :E-mail the hotel, buy an international calling card-about $5.00, or sign up with your long distance phone provider with an internation calling plan.

Better yet go to Costco or other warehouse club and buy a $20 calling card.

Domestic rates are about .04 Cents a minute, or less, and international to CR is .38 cents a minute.

You have to dial an 800 number first and enter your calling card code.

Or use the CRT discount and buy a Tel3 card. You can access the Tel3 site directly from CRT under the "discounts" heading. It's way less than 38 cents per minute. It's about 8 cents per minute to Costa Rica cellphones and even less to land lines.

Good advice, Ace. I use an MCI card that I got at COSTCO. Only 20 cents a minute to call Costa Rica from the U.S.

Isn't 8 cents less than 20? Just asking. :-)

net2phonedirect.com is great also. It's about 8 cents to CR. You call and sign up for $25 to your card and the service recharges if you burn the 25 dollars. If you aren't going to be using it for a while they will credit the remainder to your card and you just call to reactivate if you get back into a traveling cycle where you need the LD access. It works really well and I've used it for years. It's good to support CRT providers if you can but net2phone is another option.

Vonage is 11 cents per minute to CE. Not bad.
