On my last trip (3 wks ago), I had dinner one night at the Del Mar, and breakfast one morning. Both dinner and breakfast were "average". The food was ok, but nothing to write home about. The service was very good.

I had a filet mignon for dinner with some type of cream sauce. I asked for it medium, and it came to the table still moo-ing. The center of the steak was red and still cold. By the time I got it back, it was almost good enough to pass for a hockey puck by NHL standards. But the potatos and veggies were good. A couple days later, I had breakfast. Don't remember what I had, but after all.....breakfast is breakfast.

And, oh yeah.....it was definitely pricey. YMMV.

Ok.....here is my two cents on the Del mar and the Colonial.

I really enjoy the skirt steak anbd shrimp combo at the Del Mar..........but expensive. My meal with two glasses of wine and one bottle of water was close to $30.........I ate alone

I ate with a Colombiana at the Colonial and our meal was about $35-40. One drink each, I had soup, she had a salad and we each had our own entrees. Myself, a tenderloin tips special which was delicious and she had..........drumroll please.........of course! Camarones, the VB special!

Both meals were very good and the service the same.

There are better places to eat, but in a pinch these two places will do when pressed for time or if the hour is late!

Sounds like you were given the "hard" menu. When ever dining at the Colonial always insist on the "other menu". They will try to tell you it only has very limited items, not true. Is is nearly identical and the prices are about half.

Why would anyone eat at the Del Mar when the Colonial has better food for half the price? Or, if you can muster the energy, walk one block to the West and diagonally across the street from the Morazon is a great restaurant. Forgot the name, it has changed a few times. Food is great, plentiful and cheap.

The restaurant is Faro's and has good food at a very reasonable price. The casada which includes a choice of fish, beef, pork or chicken with rice, beans, salad, plantains maduro, natural beverage and dessert is only 1250 colones($2.55).

Ah yes..Faro's is the name. Great, great place for lunch or dinner. And as an added bonus the staff of waitresses were very amicable and pretty.

The Del Mar restaurant for the money is not worth it.
The food is average at best and for fish the portions
are small.

If you bother to walk around, you will see 50 places to eat something.
