How should a veteran CR guy handle this newbie?
Dapanz1, you are the devil in disguise. Bring him and introduce him to all the vices available in CR. 41%  41%  [ 20 ]
Bring him but hold him by the hand and give him sage advice 22%  22%  [ 11 ]
Discourage him from going. Tell him CR really sucks and that I've been lying to him about my fun. 8%  8%  [ 4 ]

Friend: No, not yet. Lately, I have just been partying like a rock star, spending a ton of cash, banging lots of different woman and having the time of my life!! But, I do want to go to CR before I start working for XXXXX.

Me: Well, let me check the flights. I'm always on AA. Hmm..looks like right now the cheapest fare is $650 RT w/tax. This is the exact flight that I have. When you get to your computer go on the AA site and hold the reservation.

Friend: I don't care what it cost, within some reason, but I'm pretty sure I'm in. I'll let you know over the weekend. I have to double check with my new firm XXXXXX and make sure everything is set.

So, CRT'ers what should I do? He's never been to CR. I think he has P4P before, but not sure. I feel like I'm carrying a personal responsibility.

Yes, he has a passport. And, he is getting ready to get a visa for Brazil. He is going there early 06.

Be his tour guide if you enjoy his company. Doesn't sound like he has time to read all the helpful information that abounds on this board.

Does he speak any spanish? How dependent on you will he be?

However, you are expressing some reservations through this thread. Don't let him spoil your fun. If dude really wants to go to CR, he will make it happen on his own.

If your friend is getting a visa for Brazil, I suspect he knows what he is getting into. Why don't you hold his hand on this trip and see how he makes out.

It shows charicter that you care about him enough to consider what do do. He is a big boy, and can make his own autonomous decisions.Let the head shrinking to the shrink; if it messes him up. I guess my question is, what does this say about your state and what this has done to you, to even ask the question? Perhaps, that is the issue my friend, and what needs to be adressed (or not :wink: )

What makes you think he even really needs any hand holding? It sounds like he at least has an idea what is in store for him and he's fine with it. In fact it was his idea. If he over pays, he can afford it and if he doesn't want to pay, he probably won't need to with all his various attributes. The only thing that could help him with the non-pro's (and pro's too for that matter) that you didn't list was spanish fluency and perhaps the ability to dance salsa. About the only thing you might have to worry about with him is his falling too heavily for the GFFE, but the fact that he's been banging hot gringas for the past few months probably has lessened his susceptability to even that. In fact given the way you describe his life in the US, I have to wonder why he would feel the need to go to CR for that in the first place. If airfare is not a concern and hot latinas is all he's going for than I think he'll find Brazil a lot more interesting than CR.

He will be very dependent upon me at first. He speaks NO Spanish. His biggest concern is "If I go down with you, will you be spending your whole weekend with that broad of yours?" Answer: Not the entire time. But, I will guide him to happy hour, which in itself will lead to a bevy of activities with the boys. Then, there is the get together on the 22nd at SL. Also, the poker party on the 20th w/the Sexy Bitches. He'll get acquainted quickly. Who knows, he might even find the "love of the hour" at SL.

Psych, I'm only asking because of the recent posts/threads about what CR has done to hobbyists outlook after discovering CR. My experiences in CR have been pretty well documented. I have no qualms saying CR has brought great joy to me in some aspects. And,conversely, there are times when I wish that I had NEVER known of CR. Some day I will do a spreadsheet of the good vs. bad and see what I really think.

Just have him read this board & that should cue him in on the good & the bad & the risk potential of a forever changed life. If he is a soft gullible guy I would try to steer him else where. Just remember how so many people work in life. If you give someone a tip on an investment & put your money into this also so they know you are at risk & you did this as a favor. It has been my experience that if things go well many want to take credit them selves that they were smart to do this which is no problem but if things go bad many will blame you for telling them about it & it becomes your fault in their minds.

I would not push anything but warn him & educated him on the reality of this. Many inexperienced guys I know thought oh yeah these are whores no way to fall in love with that subspecies. Well their mind is thinking of whores back home & have not experienced this different breed & style of P4P. Many I see get stuck in the gulch as we have seen over & over as they get seriously hung upon & hurt by these women.

Thought I might add this since I have been around this for so many years. From my experience the most dangerous time for men are the first 3 years of continued contact with the gulch. Most the men I know of that survived the clutches of the gulch after this period moved way beyond it & only use it for what I see as its intended purpose in this life. YMMV

-I don't think there is anything wrong with him going, as long as you make sure he does not throw around hundreds and fifties like nickles and dimes.

I have seen this all too much with newbies with an axe to grind. It only screws everything up for the rest of us.

Just ask him if he's done this before. If not why now, to get back at his fiance he just blew off? And you know him better than any of us, can he handle what he's about to get into? Sure he's a big boy and all but it's obvious what Dapanz is really concerned about here...

Odds are if he has a blast with the hot young sexy gatitas and gets hooked on the gulch his chances of reconciling with that nice fiance may be shot to hell. Or his chance of putting up with any type of "normal" relationship back home for that matter. In September, long Labor Day weekend, I took my 24 yo nephew to CR. This guy got back from Iraq in May and apparently saw a good bit of action with a Marine company.

I gave the same instructions to him as has been discussed here and had the same reservtions as has been described.

On the flight down he told me he has an 18 yo and two 20 yo that switch off during the week. I said, "man, this trip isn't going to do you a bit of good."

He hung out two nights in DR, one night in KL, I took him to ZB and I took him to dinner with two colombianas.

To my knowledge he did not partake. My fears were unfounded and I was left with some bewilderment. I guess you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink.

Dapanz, if the guy goes with you, what happens or not is his doing. If he does not go, what happens or not is his doing. He controls all outcomes.
