I planning on getting back to CR in January and have begun looking for fares. I'm wondering if there is some pattern as to the amount of time between booking and the actual flight is best for prices...

Should I book now, as soon as possible, or is there an optimal time?

I suppose that it may be a day-by-day thing, airfares.

Also, how soon in advance should one book at the Sportsman's Lounge?

Airfares are all over the place all the time. I suggest you check somewhere like Travelocity or Expedia on regular basis and when you find a fare you feel is reasonable-book it. I think guys have mentioned before it is more expensive to book through the search sites so once you find a fare you like go to the airline website and book it. Often you will find deals on the carriers sites not on expedia etc.

As far as hotels go once you firm up your dates book your rooms right away. The SDL and Pres are very popular and fill up quickly. Both have very fair cancellation policies so no worries with losing any money.
