2X1 is not that good. It's an imitation of Little Ceasar's and not done very well.

The best chain pizza IMO is Pan & Vino. Very thin crust. Pretty good pasta too.

Why is it that Pizza Hut in CR is more expensive, relatively speaking,
than in the US? One time I took a Tica and her three small offspring to a Pizza Hut in Cartago. I was thinkinhg it would cost me perhaps $20 to $25. My total bill was $48! What the f*ck?! Sure, the n*nos had ice cream for dessert and special ch*ldren's meals/pizzas, but $50?!!

Tim,

When we were heading out of San Jose, , trying to make our early A.M. flight we stopped at a Burger King.

We ordered one breakfast sandwich combo meal and an extra cup of coffee. The total was $12.00; this breakfast and extra coffee would have been under $8.00 in the U.S.

American chain fast food places, including Pizza Hut can be found all over the world, and in every country I've visited outside the U.S., the prices are on average 20% higher than in the U.S. It was cool to be able to have a beer with my Big Mac in Amsterdam, though! :D

It wasn't too bad, but I wouldn't recommend it. Just 'average' pizza.

On my first few trips to CR back in 1998/1999, I befriended two total non-pros who worked in a hair salon. They lived in a 'shack' in the hills of Desamparados. I couldn't understand it when they told me they could never really afford pizza, and it was a 'luxury' to them. After visiting Pizza Hut there, I understood!

The BK at the airport is a ripoff. Outside the airport, fast food prices aren't that different than the US, depending on the chain.

Any of the food places at SJO are very very expensive. The airport authority must charge them an outrageous fee.

I bring a sandwich from Subway whenever I travel since American only gives you a bag of pretzels and the airport food is so high priced. Just remember to consume the whole thing. On one trip I only ate half and the USDA beagle dog busted me at the Miami airport

Yo Pizza Fans,

Agree with LV Steve, pizza at Price Smart is great. Mi novia always orders a pie for us when we finish de shopping

What I really do miss is some awesome pies with Portabella mushrooms and sun dried tomatoes that I had enjoyed in Cartagena y Medellin , Colombia.

Anybody know of such available in San Jose :?:

Munchy time , make my own :D

Cygnus

DD, I believe all the eating establishments are owned by the same company (BK/PapaJohn's franchisee). They are charged a steep rent but it was a very crooked soliciation process. I'm not aware who else participated, if anyone at all. I believe it was one of those deals in which only one party qualified.

Went to Price-mart and tried the Pizza. It's better than Jail, but not as good as school. Decent by local standards, but still conveyor belt pizza

There is a small Italian restaurant in Escazu right on the main drag. I believe the name is Sal Pepe. It is next to the ice cream store and the Shell? service station. Great thin crust pizza with wonderful quality toppings. The Pizza Amitriana (sp) is particulary good. Service is very good with traditional Italian style waiters. The lunch specials are also good, had lemon fish, ensalade and pasta with tomata salsa for 2600 colones.

Sale e Pepe has good pizza but you have to be careful to know the hours they are open  . During the week the open at noon, close at 3PM, reopen at 6PM and close again at 11PM except for Friday when they close at midnight. On Saturday they are open from noon to midnight and on Sunday from noon to 10PM. On Tuesday they do not open at all.

I prefer the pizza at restaurant San Marco, thanks for the tip Vegas Bob :D , in Escazu. It is in the same shopping center as World gym on the road from Escazu to Multi-Plaza. Closed on Sundays :( .
