Not only have I read the thread but all of your posts which (for me) just don't add up. Although you hadn't been a member long, it does not take long to learn a lot if one simply reads and takes advantage of the wealth of knowledge here. I find it hard to believe a guy could have access to the site yet remain so clueless for any length of time. Before my first trip like most guys that find the site I spent hours researching and learning all I could.
For some reason after reading all your posts it's possible to picture you sitting back laughing at everyone buying into your stories...that's just me, (my apologies if I'm wrong), I will not disturb your thread again.

Ding Dong..sorry, this thread can't die yet. I was out of town being a corporate ass kisser for a few days and haven't had the time to read this thread. Now that I have, of course, I have some comments.

Chupa, I think you are full of shit. I, too, have been around the block in CR and I see alot of inconsistencies in your posts. Even if what you are saying is true, it is so highly unlikely I will never be swayed to believe all of what is said. In the Chicago area we have a segment on a sports radion talk show called "Who you crappin?" Chupa..who you crappin'?

Here is another thing that you need to get wise about. Your "novia" and her friend have probably been working this little charade for quite some time. They are skilled actresses who have put on this performance longer than Broadway was showing "Phantom of the Opera." Here is a clue...they are working together.

It is always a matter of time before the RFM comes. Believe me, it took mine 3 months before she popped the big question. I agree with your assesment of the way people live in other countries. Yes, we, as a group of whorticulturist have an overabundance in comparison to the average Tico. So, I will never begrudge you for sending money to help. I have publicly admitted to sending money. I don't know your financial situation but $200 to most of us is very little. Hey, most of us travel to CR a minimum of 4 times a year. I hope we can afford a few hundred to help someone we care about.

I just think the whole initial post sounds cornball. I hope you really don't think that after 1 day this highly educated women is in love with you and she can't live with you. Here is another piece of advice that has helped me get over the "guilt" of not sending $$ on every request. She got along just fine for the 26 years before she met you. If she needed $200 for her phone bill you should tell her to keep her ass out of the casino and spend more time in the courtroom.

I know his girl isn't a lawyer - no way she is a lawyer. This is the most unreal part of the whole post.

But, in all the phone calls, Chapu still hasn't said, "why aren't you practicing law?" That would be one of my first question even before she asked for money.

Unemployment isn't so much among the professionals in CR from what I've gathered. I've read 6% unemployment for CR and that isn't so bad and I doubt many professionals such as lawyers are out of work. If they can't get law jobs, their education would get them something.

I agree with whoever said that she has done well enough for 26 years, why is it that Chapu has to save her life now.

I agree with whoever said that she is the greatest actress of all time and that her and the old woman are working a con together. But, I wonder, is it easier to work a con than to work at the BM?

Hey Prolijo, just out of curiosity, what was the reason for saying that "Tim Bones" has no credibility. He is new to the forum neverthless his posts are more insightful than 75% of the stuff being written on this site.

How would you define credibility?

I consider myself a Costa Rica "veteran" and have posted my share of quality information on Club Hombre, CRS and CRT over the years. However, only 2 or 3 members know who I am since you won't see me hanging around with Gringos while in San Jose.

I would like to know, do I have credibility?

I don't know Tim Bones and have never met him. He could well be on the up and up. His posts are more insightful than 95% of the stuff written here and I agree with nearly all of his advice. If I'm wrong about the guy and offended him I sincerely apologize. At the very least he has not responded to those questioning him in the immature manner just demonstrated by Chupa.

A word of advice to Chupa. If you lay an experience out there for comment, especially one as fantastic as yours, you have to expect some people to question it. If you're a first-timer to CR (and I'm guessing a first-timer to international mongering) and are seeking advice from more seasoned travelers, listen to them rather than denying everything they say and replying the way you just have. Everybody to a man has been telling you that you're most likely being played. Even you must suspect it. The more you continue to deny it the stronger our warnings will become. If you don't like what we have to say, you shouldn't have posted to begin with but you certainly shouldn't have replied the way you just have. Let it go. Follow our advice or not. I for one don't care. When we call you clueles or a chump we've stated our basis. But don't feed this thread by resorting to uncalled for ass, shit and phucking business comments. That just diminishes you further.

Anyway back on Tim Bones. My issue with him is not his observations on such things as the need for speaking spanish, or that working girls always are motivated by money in their relationships no matter how much they try to fool us AND some of us fool OURSELVES. He is 100% on the mark there. My issue with him is the same as what was raised by others and which was un addressed until around the same time that I made that comment. Why was he singlemindedly posting on that one subject in numerous threads and in fact dredging up old played out threads on that subject as well that had been dead for at least a month or more? It seemed strange to me and others, why he had that apparent obsession.

Unlike our friend Chupa here who wears his heart on his sleeve and falls prey to any line that is given him, TB is in a way at the opposite end of the spectrum. In another thread he actually came down on LVSteve for his actions with his novia. And he failed to distinguish that in that situation it was not a working girl in question (or one Steve just met that was claiming to not be a working girl) and she never made an RFM (steve offered it). The funny thing is that in numerous other posts TB does distinguish between pro's and regular girls. Actually it is there that I disagree with him somewhat. Regular chicas ARE (marginally) better than working girls for forming real relationships, BUT (and this is where I differ from TB) if they come from a significantly poorer background than you AND they are much younger than you, IMHO, the odds are pretty good that their attraction to you is still heavily based on what you can bring them materially.

The other reason I take issue with TB, apart from his constant preaching the "no mas dinero para putas" line to the exclusion of anything else, is his need to boast about the non-pros he'd scored with when he first came to CR some 20 years ago (in probably 1 out of every 4 posts). We're all suitably impressed but personally I'm not convinced of the relevance. We were all scoring more free pu*sy 20 years ago than we are today. What happened when I was in my 20's and a young fit stud has little to do with how a slightly out of shape 40 something year-old is going to do with chicas young enough to be his daughter. While it is true that in the latin culture such May-September romances are not seen the same way. It is also true that in the latin culture the man is still depended upon as the breadwinner and an older man, particularly a gringo is seen as a better source of support. In other words it still comes down to money. As for non-pros its still the same. If they are young pretty and educated, they can be more selective. While a an older fatter gringo does not seem so unattractive, the main thing he will have going for him will still be his money and if she is successful (or can attract a halfway successful younger tico) she has less need to sell out for just money.

My questions to TB are these.
1) Does he think that CR offers as much opportunity for a young guy to score with young chicas as it did 20 years ago? After all there has been a huge influx of gringos since then and we are not so rare or novel and the attitudes of the tico culture as a whole has undoubtedly changed towards gringos due to the money and attitudes we have brought with us.
2) Does he think the opportunities now that he is much older and presumably not as fit are as great with the younger better educated chicas? Targetting older chicas closer to ones on edge can still be done regardles of class but I'm guessing the young hotties are not going to be interested in us (even if we speak fluent spanish) unless they are poor or otherwise motivated in whole or in part by our money.
3) He constantly emphasizes the need to learn spanish, which I completely agree with, but does he think complete fluency is that realistic for the casual occasional visitor to CR or that broken spanish and a lousy line will help even the more regular older visitor to CR with the young non-dinero motivated chicas in CR?
4) I agree that guys fool themselves as much as the chicas fool them when they refer to the "novia" working girls, but is he saying there is never at least an element of personal chemistry and attraction between some of us and our favoritas? In other words, can't the girls have favoritas too?

TB speaks in very extreme terms and that is the issue I really have with him. He does bring a lot of wisdom and experience to this board and I should not have suggested he was anywhere near the same category as Chupa.
