I spent my first trip to SJ at the presidente. 9 day's, I would go out every day and sit on the park benchs around Ave. central. I can tell you there are lots of gringo's sitting around enjoying the eye candy. Not many are members of CRT. but still good guys, mostly retired. They are a wealth of info. 2 nd. I have to agree allitle spanish will go along way. When sitting at the fountion on Ave central next to the grand hotel two girls about 30 sat down next to me and tryed to get my attention. I tryed to talk but the one next to me spoke no english. Then they sifted, but they were older and I was not paying alot of attention. I got up and started walking towards the presidente and at the next block. One of them said something to me, At that point I realized that they had followed me. So off to the old game. We walked around and went to the movies. They were both from nicuragia and worked during the day as maids. After about 6 hours the one who had two K*ds went home. She was the english allitle speaker. Mejareje. Hard name to pronouce. Patricia stayed with me and we went too the hotel after a nice dinner. Never discussion of money. Had a good time. This girl was 100% non-pro yet still a woman. Wants to marry, Wants that word. I played around and did not wear the rain coat, And like all of them was told the conuqences were my problem. I did the catholic and pulled out and am still praying. Matter of fact am waiting right now for the call on what date for the snip/snip. But back to the storey. That morning she had to go to work. And needed cab money. I pulled out 10k because she was to come back allso. She took it and said the corner was torn and the cab might not take. So she got another one. I did not feel good about that move. Reminded me of the X. Well the next day I am out on Ave central and this realy nice young man about 10 is in line next to me a Mcdonalds. And I try my spanish. Joke! So I get my tray and go to get a seat and sure enough the littlebit of english girl Meja is there. So I say hi, Well guess what? The K*D was Hers. So We talked and hung out. I was to meet her friend patricia at the Presidente at 6pm. Well after waiting 30 min and her not showing, me and them contiued to hang out. Meje then said the boy had to go home. So we took a cab and droped him off. We went to dinner and I asked her to come back to the hotel with me. She did not want to go. Said freinds worked there. But would go somewhere else. I am cheap and the press. is a nice place and you get a great breafset there. So after awhile she agreed. I had booked for two not knowing the guest rules and wanting to monger. So I registered her so that her name would appear on the papers for the free breskfest and the hotel staff would see her as a guest. This girl was hot, 34 or so and proabaly had not done much since her and the old man broke up. The sheets were wet and she nutted alot. Definite GFE, The next morning she was afraid to get breaskfest because the big girl who does the omletes is her freind. I am definitly doing the locals thing. And a few days latter I met another waitress who was her freind. I think we spend about 5 days together and she went to work during the day. I was honest with her about me. We went to San Pedro Mall and saw a movie one night. We went to the Jazz club another night. And she found some cabby who mysteriously allways was picking us up. And suggesting these nice places to go. We went to the monistary resturant in Erucasa. Real nice spot and I got her allitle drunk on white wine. I bought her some perfume on the 3rd. floor at San Pedro. We allso went to Chef whatever next to the New York Bar. And Her and the waitress talked for about 5 min and when she left, I said you convinced her you are not a woking girl. She said I did'nt know you understood that much spanish. I don't speak spanish but know what the waitress body language say's. The 3rd. night her freind patricia called and swears that she was waiting. It was an uncomfortable sitution . I told her I had met someone else. Then I said do you think she was waiting? Meja says she lied. A real US soap opera. I asked many time to meet the family. But the answer was you are going away and I am going back.
So! Can you meet a girl in costa rica who wants to meet a man, fall in love, get married and have baby's? All day long is the answer. Will she still be a woman. Damm right. Will she still want you to support her family? Damm right.
I know what you mean about wanting to meet someone that its more deeper than sex. There are alot of other post about that. For me I am now asking myself why are you going back? To monger is the answer. This time I will be staying at the Del Ray. Right in the middle of it. I have to addmite that after two days while she was at work I was at Eros and Oasis. That on my way to the airport I stoped at Oasis and had two beautifull 18 & 19 year olds at the same time. That memory is Why I am going back. Please forgive all my spelling. I guess I can K*D of understand the viewpoint, but it is actually a lot more fun than getting all stressed out trying to go after a Gringa, which can be akind to a challenge on Survivor.

If you can dance, it is a gas and speak the lingo, but normally it can be as easy as standing around, if you look like the the sterotypical young gringo, normally you are taller and lighter than the Tico competiton, you also advertise that you have money by being there, so basically all the chit chat is minimized because you have already proven to be the Belle of the Ball by just being there. Believe me, I have thought alot about this, but the average gringo virtually can be viewed as one of the better catches in the room because you are there and different. Trust me, I got more non-pro ass being in CR and just hanging out and chatting than I have since bought and paid for there.

Remember the 5 bonus point theory of travel: If you are traveling to a country where they like Gringos, you get 5 bonus points on the chick' scorecard for just being one. This works well in Australia, New Zealand (or at least with Kiwis, with the Brits(but not lately), Ireland (sometimes) and Costa Rica

Have any of you that met, courted, consumated with nonworking girls regretted and wished you had just stayed around the gulch and MPs? I ask because I would like to meet some nonworking girls just because it's interesting, good to have friends, and who knows what else..


I don't know how to dance Salsa. Would it be lame to try and find a chica to teach me at KL? They're there.. I'd even pay them a little.


How far is San Pedro Mall from the DR/KL?

About five minutes by cab. I would recommend walking around the mall or hanging out in the cofee bar in the office tower. Plenty of eye candy...pretty sure I saw some working girls too.

I met a semi-pro Columbian student at the DL, she was would not walk to the Presidente, would only take a cab because she didn't want anyone she knew to see her out on the streets late at night. She was great and fun to be with, drafted a contract (which I still have) stating what we would do and what she wouldn't do. She asked me for my ID and checked my signature against the contract I signed. This whole situation was histerical to me. She defenitely was different. Works a few days a month, makes what she needs to survive, and from what I gather keeps her head in the books. She has a plan.

Where is El Pueblo disco club area?

I'm heading out next month and will try to meet some non-working Ticas during the day, in bewteen MP and at night I'm all over the DR! I will check out Key Largo this time around.

I don't believe there's a reason to bring up $$$ all the time. What you should understand is that not everything in this world revolves around $$$. If you would like to have a Tica teach you how to dance, just ask her. No need to pay. From my experience these people really enjoy life and it has nothing to do with $$$. In fact, not knowing how to dance has its benefits, as long as you make an attempt to dance, g*rls will be more than happy to teach you a step or two. Take advantage of their kindness and after getting to know them, offer them a drink. This should work out if you just be yourself and enjoy the company your with... it works both ways. Good luck.

Well, in all honesty, if the question was directed at me, I would have to say no. I have had more regrets with the Professionals than with regular girls, but with regular girls you will have to deal with some normal day to day issues such as meeting the family and dealing with her friends.

The regular girls I dated in CR were all pretty nice to me, but the bartender was a bit of a bad girl. The doctor and the bartender and the bartender's sister found out about each other as we ran into them at Infinito at El Pueblo and the bad girl or her sister kept calling my hotel room later in the evening, screaming "Ella es muy fea" (In actuality the bartender was very good looking as was the sister) and demanding that I meet with them while I was sleeping with the doc.

I slept with the bartender the 1st night I met her. She just kept buying me drinks. The doctor took a couple of dates and she did go out on me once when I was working across the bay in Golfito, but we had excellent make up sex in the water at the beach.

I also dated a real nutty redhead named Sandra who was into drugs (which I strongly disapprove of BTW) and hanging out with Peace Corp workers (I honestly don't know which is worse) The sex with her was good, but her habits and friends were a pain.

Then there was a real nice girl whose mother demanded that we take a chaperon to the beach. That was a non-starter for me.

So, I would have to say that the problems that you will encounter with regular girls is going to be less severe as there is less drama in the life of an average hard working Tica than it is with a professional from one of the bars. Problems with Pros may also be drug usage, but also I would say there is a higher probability of encountering a women with a very jaded disposition who may also be dishonest, but that is just my opinion

I have had plenty of luck with locals(non working). Both in SJ and the beaches. I have to agree, never mention money, do be freindly with eye contact and a smile. Don't act like your making a propostion. Friendly greatings and converstaion can go a long way. I hit the clubs....some don't like these places but I am in my late 20's and have been in the industry since college. Most are willing to at least accept a drink or few, dance and the rest is up to you. Vertigo is a cool place and there were a few clubs in Escazu that are great to. El Pueblo is a cool place but I tend to be a little hot tempered and shoot my mouth off. Not good in that area. I have meet plenty of girls in anywhere from gift shops to the malls to bartenders. Its simply the approach you use. I am still at "hola" with my spanish so to me...language is an issue...sometimes. They understand a lot more than you think. Good luck with your search.

had luck at el pueblo the first time when Infinito was still there. total non-pro girl, great sex, no money. just as if I was in some singles bar in the states. next time was with a girl I met in the bar in the gran hotel. nice college girl, good fun, no money ever mentioned.

had luck again at friends, but it seemed like I was just in the right place at the right time with the right drunk girl. every trip I go to el pueblo, I end up at least flirting with some girls. most recent trip, I went out with a bartender from one of the gulch hotels (won't say which). no sex, just make out, had fun and talked for a while.

the one thing that all these girls had in common, was they all seemed to have some kind of fascination with all things gringo. e.g., they were really into gringo things like alternative rock, motorcross, or football, sushi, or big cities, etc. none of them liked the kind of things that make them "latina" like latin dancing, reggaeton, salsa, stuff like that. bummed me out, because those things are what turn me on. it's like, without those latina qualities, you're just another chick from california--except that you speak spanish.
