I'm not taking the chance. Plenty available in SJO and Jaco. Of course nothing comparable to the quality of dispensary weed, but not bad if you have the right contacts. Hopefully the laws will change on both sides in not too long a time. Damn, Mayall sung about that way back in 1969!!

Zunbake As someone who has smoked daily for 30+ years I don't leave home without it ... The TSA doesn't care about your flower, vape pens or edibles nor does CR. Don't buy into the misinformation on this forum and post .. CRT seems in need of community notes like X !

Unless your OK with much lower quality flower than you will find at your local dispensary in FL, because nothing you will find in CR will be as close as good THC or as affordable.

Why talk about something you have obviously have zero idea about?? People like you get other's sent to jail.
They will bust you for gummies, much less for flower and vape pens, at SJO. It happens all the time. DON'T DO IT!
The herb is just as good here as it is in the states and it's everywhere. Same people, growing the same cultivars, using the same methods. In la zona sur, my buddy has 5 different kinds @ 60 a quart.
I know a chica in centro that always has some.

Absolutely. My regular chica always has good stuff. In Jaco especially it is readily available and if you are discreet about it, no problems.

That's rich coming from the guy lecturing strangers about things he clearly half-understands while bragging about $60-a-quart 'deals' like it's a flex.

Michigan/Ohio dispensaries we pay less per gram for lab-tested, properly cured, high-THC flower than your magical 'same cultivars' buddy is charging for whatever backyard grow he's moving in la zona sur.

A quarter ounce of decent stuff here doesn't run you $60+ unless you're getting hosed. Congrats on the tourist markup special, I guess.

And the 'they bust you all the time at SJO' fear-mongering? I've flown with my meds for decades. TSA isn't hunting flower or vapes (they're not DEA agents), and yeah, plenty of us know the real risk calculus on arrival.

But acting like I'm the clueless one for calling out lower quality and higher effective prices down there—while you don't know a damn thing about my experience, tolerance, or what 'medical' actually means— just shows who's really talking out their ass.

People like you spread panic that gets folks stressed for no reason. Next time, try facts over forum warrior energy.

WHAT GOOGLE AI SAID: Yes, as an American expat living in Costa Rica, you can legally buy medical marijuana. However, you must go through Costa Rica's official domestic healthcare channels, as U.S. medical marijuana cards are not recognized, and importing cannabis into the country remains strictly illegal.Costa Rica officially rolled out its fully regulated medical cannabis framework, allowing authorized pharmacies to dispense products to registered resident patients.Requirements to Purchase Medical Cannabis To legally obtain medical marijuana as an expat, you must follow a strict, multi-step protocol managed by the Ministry of Health:Consult a Costa Rican Doctor: You must book an appointment with a licensed local physician or visit a specialized provider like Costa Rica Cannabis Clinics or Cura Vida Cannabis Clinics. They will evaluate your condition in person or via approved medical consultations.Have a Qualifying Condition: Costa Rica limits prescriptions to specific chronic and severe illnesses. These primarily include chronic pain, insomnia, anxiety, cancer-related symptoms, PTSD, and epilepsy.Receive a Digital Prescription: If you qualify, the doctor will issue a digital prescription directly through Costa Rica's secure, national electronic prescription system.Purchase at an Authorized Pharmacy: You cannot buy medical marijuana at recreational "dispensaries". You must present your valid residency ID (cedula) or passport at a licensed pharmacy, such as Farmacia Azul, which is authorized to fulfill these digital scripts.Important Legal Caveats Recreational Use is Still Illegal: While personal possession of small amounts is often de facto decriminalized (meaning police typically confiscate it rather than making an arrest), large-scale cultivation, selling, and public smoking remain illegal. No Home Cultivation: The law does not permit patients to grow their own cannabis plants at home.Over-the-Counter CBD: If you only need low-THC wellness products, CBD oils, tinctures, and cosmetics (containing under 1% THC) are widely available over the counter in local pharmacies and supermarkets without requiring a prescription. If you would like to move forward, please let me know:What specific medical condition you are looking to treat? What region of Costa Rica you currently reside in?Whether you hold an official residency status (cedula) or are living there on a tourist stamp?
+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+
TOURIST SECETION ...you must establish a temporary patient profile within the Costa Rican system:Book a Local Doctor Consultation: You must schedule an in-person or virtual appointment with a physician registered with the Colegio de Médicos y Cirujanos de Costa Rica. Clinics catering to expats and tourists handle these swiftly.Present Valid Identification: As a tourist, you will use your valid international passport as your primary identification instead of a local resident ID card (cedula).Get a Digital Prescription: If the doctor approves you for a qualifying condition (like chronic pain or severe anxiety), they will upload a temporary prescription to the Ministry of Health's electronic portal.Fill it at an Authorized Pharmacy: You take your passport to an authorized pharmacy network to purchase the legally regulated THC or high-potency cannabis products.Important Distinction: U.S. States vs. Costa Rica You might be mixing this up with places like Washington D.C. or Hawaii, which allow out-of-state tourists to fill out a quick online form to get a Non-Resident Medical Cannabis Registration. Costa Rica's process is strictly medical and requires a consultation with a doctor licensed inside Costa Rica.If you want to try getting a prescription when you arrive, let me know:What city or beach town are you staying in? (I can see if there is a clinic nearby). How long is your vacation? (Short trips might make the doctor fees less practical than buying over-the-counter CBD).... really not sure the truth on this one but this is what I found. Not sure I would trust it but here it is. I just plug it in to Google AI but be warned .....I would trust what the expats like Orange says over AI because they are the boots on the ground not AI. Hope this helps
