I don;t believe it would have benefitted JetBlue. Spirit notorious for its cancellatiions and disruptive passengers.
Listening to Peter Greenberg travel editor. make a few valid points, major airlines AA, Delta purchase jetfuel three months in advance and will purchase more when theres a drop in price. Low cost carriers do not.
As far as bailing out Spirit, all the carriers went the Feds looking for $$ to defray the cost of jetfuel, none got any $$.
