Trumpflation
When the Biden and Buttigieg administration blocked a proposed Spirit/JetBlue merger in 2024, they bragged it was "a victory for U.S. travelers who deserve lower prices and better choices." Democrats in Congress opposed to the merger said it would “have led to fewer flights and higher fares
It was a victory! Airline mergers/acquisitions result in less competition and ultimately fewer flights and higher fares. I still remember the Southwest/AirTran acquisition. Complete F-ing disaster! To this day, I have way fewer options and much higher fares in my region because of the acquisition.
I wanted Spirit to succeed, but after two bankruptcies they just failed. If JetBlue merged with Spirit, that wouldn't solve their operational and financial problems. You can't take sh!t and mix it with OJ and expect it to taste good. And yes, you get the same result if the airline goes bankrupt, but I would much rather not bring down JB.
