I have a trip to san jose planned next month and have been watching the usd to colon exchange rate slowly drop over the last month or so. I hope it is above 500 during my visit.

What rate do you get taking Colones out of an ATM?

It depends ....

Compra (buy rate) of the bank owning the ATM plus any of their fees plus any fees your bank may charge. Use the 2nd link above. For example:
On 13-December at a Davivienda ATM with an Ally account ....

493 to 1
c4,000 Davivienda ATM fee
$0.50 Ally bank fee

So, to get c200mil your account will be charged (c204,000 / 493)+$0.50=$414.29

At SJO, Global Exchange (421:1) you would be charged $475
