Let me preface my first posting with a couple of comments. First of all this is an amazing site that has provided an incredible education. My only complaint is that I didn’t find it until after my travel arrangements were all made (and of course are unchangeable). Second, I am traveling to CR on a business trip that requires me to stay as the Marriott as I will have a number of obligations at the hotel. I understand that the hotel is wonderful, but somewhat inconveniently located. Lastly, I speak absolutely NO Spanish. I wish I did, but don’t have the time at this point for even a crash course.

I have spent a lot of time surfing and utilizing the search engine, but would appreciate any feedback from experienced members as follows:

1) Will most girls be willing to come back to the Marriott with me? Are girls at some places more or less likely to accept the location? I understand that I will have to pay their return cab fare.

2) Will the Marriott “allow” me to bring girls back to my room? This seems like a strange question as I am unsure how they would know, but this seems to be an issue discussed on the boards. If so, what will the fee likely be?

3) Given my geography and lack of Spanish am I simply better off focusing my efforts on the massage parlors as there are built in accommodations and no need to negotiate? This is my hunch, but I hate missing out on the Blue Marlin, Key Largo, etc.

Thanks in advance and I promise to file a trip report upon my return.

Welcome Soxfan...always good to have another fan on the board, especially since Admin1 is a Yankee fan. Mariott is a beautiful place, I am not sure about the chica regulations. I imagine they either disallow it, or charge an excessively high rate. For what you are looking for, I would offer 3 options:

1) Hang at the MP's. Rooms is included on site, and a good place to hang overall.
2) Definitely hit the BM for happy hour, and KL late night. I dont know how you feel about this, but my buddy always used to get a hotel room in the gulch for a night or 2, while keeping his Intercontinental room for Business.
3) You can always pull a girl out of the BM or KL (or wherever else) and head on to a love motel like Eden (read GetRhythm's or Ruffnutz's reviews)

Welcome again, and go sox.

If the chicas know the hotel they will go with you. They make good money off you, they can afford a cab on their own.

Some hotels want to be working girl free because they wish to cater to a business or eco tourist clientele. I am not sure about the Marriott. If you act cool/discreet and the chica doesn't dress too slutty, you can get by the front desk. Have your secretary call the Marriott and ask if it's okay to bring a prostitute back to your room. ok, just make the call yourself.

Go to Zona Blue daily and have your chica of the day. Or, also book a room for one night at the DR and have a few sessions.

You will do fine without spanish if you act like a gentleman, dress decent, and don't get too drunk. At least learn how to say please and thank you; because Barnie (the purrple dinosaur) says those are the magic words.

Read the newbies section about where to go and what to avoid. Take lots of pictures of the naked chicas to share with your boss when you get back. That way he or she will know you were real busy.

Take cabs at night.

I would arrange for a second room downtown. No need to spend a lot. The Morazan usually advertises a regular room at $39. Its a small room, but perfectly acceptable & a block from the DR. I stayed at the Europa not too long ago, at $45 a night. The CRT rate at the Prez is very reasonable too. IMO too much trouble going back & forth to the Marriott, plus why take a chance on meeting a business associate/client with prostitute in tow?

Can a chica afford the taxi fare, sure. But having you pay it is an established norm even from the gulch. From the Marriott sure it is a real turn off for the chica if say NO and may effect her performance.

Sox,
These are all good suggestions, and I am in agreement. I don't know where the Marriott is located, but from my experience in June, the chicas don't really want to go far away from the DR. Obviously, for them time is money, so they prefer if you stay near the gulch or you can also rent a room for the night in one of the suggested hotels near DR.

DD is right once again. No matter how much you pay to get them there, if you take them way outside the Gulch it will be assumed that you'll cover the cost of getting them back. Besides we're only talking about maybe 1-2K colones ($2-4). You can try in your negotiations to specify ahead of time that they're on their own, but it will make you look petty and cheap, hardly qualities that will help pursuade them to take the risk with you to go so far away or work hard for a tip if they do.

I'd also like to qualify some of the other things RHM said. Re going to Zona Blue daily, that is certainly possible, but there are lots of other MP's worth trying. There's no absolute reason you need to give them ALL your MP business. Re booking a room at the DR for one night and having a few sessions, that will really set you back. On top of the already relatively high nightly rate they charge $10 for every chica you take upstairs.

Gopher suggested you get a 2nd chica-friendly hotel room closer to the action. This is a better idea especially if you want a TLN (all night) session or plan on bringing a 2nd chica back later that same night for another session. But if you only want a girl for an hour or two (or three) and plan on sleeping in your own bed back at the Marriot, there's no reason you have to pay $45/nt at the Europa or $39/nt at the Morazon. Papichullo, who had a lot of other excellent suggestions, already mentioned the Motel Eden at $25 for a few hours but well outside the Gulch. There are even less expensive alternatives within 1 block of the Blue Marlin. The Hotel Asia may be a fleabag but only costs $10 and the Morazon will rent out rooms for a few hours for something like $20 if they have vacancies. The chica fee at the Marriot could cost almost as much and you have the problem of distance on top of that.

and my reply to a guy asking about a similar place:

Some more info on the Marriot. I've driven by there but have never been in. It is located about west of Sabana Park and downtown just off the highway that circumvents the city. Their website says they're 16km and 15 minutes from downtown. It seemed closer to me but they should know. It is definitely a US style hotel with several US franchise restaurants right next to it (I don't recall, a Pizza Hut? and a Fridays? or some such place). Some gringo tourists take comfort in the familiar. Personally, I prefer to experience more of the local flavor, even if its a Pollo Campesino (a Latin American chain)

Marriott is located west of San Jose in the Guachipelin Barrio of Ezcazu. The hotel is just off the Prospero Fernando Highway which runs from the east end of Sabana Park to Santa Ana.

It across the Pista from CIMA Hospital and Price Mart and next door to the Plaza Itskatzu which has many restaurants including an Outback Steak House. The restaurants are varied and you can find different type ethnic foods there.

The Mall Multi Plaza is just east of the Hotel and across the street from the Mall is the Hotel Inter Continental which many members here have said has an awesome Sunday Brunch.

For the record, you must define courtyard by marriott or the mariott in Firestone which is about 5 minutes from the Airport.

The one near the airport is definitely not a place to be parading Working girls around. It is almost 90% US tourists and I can assure you it wont fly.

You can always try the Motel Eden for Short term action!

DD,
Okay, it was an Outback (which it happens I like here at home). I said I wasn't sure. There were also a couple of other US-chain restaurants immediately next to the hotel. I didn't mean to suggest that there weren't other restaurants in the area or other amenities. A lot of people think its proximity to upscale Escazu shopping & restaurants, removal from the chaos and clutter of downtown and much easier access to the airport and the western valley make it an ideal location. Its just not the best location for mongering purposes. A lot of people also appreciate the uniformity, reliability and familiarity of a well-run US hotel chain as well as the neighborhood with its US suburban feel. I can certainly appreciate that appeal. Personally, I feel I can get that at home and its not part of what I come to CR for. I just think it removes you a step further from the native appeal of CR.

That brunch sounds very interesting. For those that are interested here's a review http://www.costaricaticas.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=5575. Since its served between noon and 4PM, shouldn't it be called lupper or dunch :P . It might make a very nice treat, but at $28 I think I'll stick more regularly to breakfasts at the local Tico sodas where I can get my huevos y gallo pinto for $1-2.

Just my 2 cents worth on Escazu: On my 2nd trip to Costa Rica I took the family. First & only time I ever did that! We spent our first two and last two nights in Escazu. I really didn't like it. I felt like I was in Southern California. Lots of traffic, its expensive, and other than restaurants there is really not much of interest to me there.

Prolijo, sorry if my post came across as taking you to task for misstating which restaurants were located near the Marriott. That was not my intent amigo, I was just trying to flesh out the topic.

Have to agree with that. Ezcazu is a typical US style upper class suburb

I stayed at the Marriott. not courtyard on my first trip.

I have Platinum Premier status with them as I'm in a Marriott property every week.

Anyway I did not have a problem with bringing girls in.

This is a business hotel but they know the deal. All the girls I brought in were well dressed.

There is nothing wrong with finding a nice girl at the Blue Marlin at happy hour. going to dinner, dancing at Key Largo and her spending a few hours or all night with you at this hotel.

The only Marriott I've been to is out by the airport like Admin1 said. It is quite a ways off the autopista and there are no other developments or restaurants nearby. If I remember correctly, it is a mandatory 6,000 colón cab ride to/from the gultch (similar to the airport). If you brought a girl back, she would have to be dressed to the nines becuse it is one of the classiest hotels in San Jose. They have doormen and security everywhere.

You mean Pollo Campero. Always a favorite of mine.

I appreciate everyone's comments. They have been very helpful. The value of this site and the willingness of the members to share is overwhelming.

Yes, I am staying at the "fancy" Marriott by the airport. I think given my remote location, type of hotel and lack of Spanish I am going to focus most of my activities on the massage parlors and visit the BM etc., as a sort of tourist rather than as a participant.

Thanks again and I promise to report back after my trip.
