Considering how badly the CR / Nica border is right now, I can't see them operating an airport much better anytime soon.
It is taking CR 2-3 days to get a test result back for truckers attempting to enter the country
From QCostarica
The Nicaraguan president readout numbers that included some 1,000 truckers from Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador and Nicaragua, lining from the Peñas Blancas border to Rivas.

“It’s not only Nicaraguan truckers, but from all over the region”, said Ortega.

The week before last, Costa Rica made it mandatory that truckers entering Costa Rica to be tested and must wait the two to three days to confirm results before being allowed to enter the country.

Ortega is usually not a reliable source but the photo of the trucks lined up speaks for itself

The CR position is consistently focused on controlling the virus spread and ALL testing takes at least 24 hours since they do not have any rapid testing capacity.

The options are:
1. For freight just passing through CR the truck waits at the border and joins the nightly convoy escorted by the police to ensure the drivers don't make any stops.
2. For freight whose final destination is inside the CR....
a.) The original driver can get tested, the test is sent to a lab, the results come back and IF the test is negative the original driver can deliver the freight. (48+ hours, 50+ drivers so far gave tested positive with one collapsing at the border)
b.) The original driver can drop the freight at customs and a tested CR driver can deliver it to the destination inside CR. (Thus introducing the various truck driver unions into the equation)

The practical results are increased time and costs and effectively disrupts freight (AKA clusterfuck). My limited experience with CR bureaucracy has been a near slavish following of the process. I would not expect the opening of the borders to tourists to be any different.

I also don't expect other countries to be much better, especially when dealing with places like Nicaragua.

Expect travel bubbles for all travel (freight and people). Expect direct only flights between countries (or travel bubbles). Add 14+ days to any travel plans.

Why are flights to SJO outrageously expensive in June when it’s at least a month before you can go? They must not be planning to let tourist there in June. Who would pay those fares when you can damm near go anywhere else on the planet for the same price? (Don’t take that literally and respond with quotes to other planetary destinations)

The airlines are going to experience a bunch of extra costs and they don't have the cash on hand to absorb them. Extra cleaning, sanitizing, getting the parked planes back in service.
They may be running at a decreased capacity as well.
We don't know what the testing situation will be, my gut tells me a simple temperature check won't be enough.

I wonder if we’ll have to have our temperature taken and fill out that COVID form when we check into the hotels and wear masks when we leave our rooms.

Doubt it...because none of those things work very well.

To get into the country my guess is that you will be tested on arrival, wait in a secure facility until your test results come back, and then quarantine in a secure facility for 2 weeks.

Or they just don't open up for non-essential travel until the virus is not active in the countries where people are coming from.

Masks help to not spread the virus if you have it, but don't help much for someone just trying not to get it...unless you are using surgical type procedures and a surgical type mask.

I can almost hear Reba singing .... "That's the night that the lights went out in [San Jose]"

The mayor of San Jose just announced the cancellation of the XMas parade in December (Festival de la Luz) due to coronavirus concerns, health and economic.

Get used to boning women in your own neighborhoods. That's the way the world always operated before the Wright Bros. The opportunities at this present time might surprise you.

Costa Rica reached 1,000 COVID-19 cases today.
As of May 23, there have been 2,689 Dengue fever cases reported, three times the number last year.
https://qcostarica.com/dengue-outbreak- ... -zona-sur/

So add some bug spray to your essential CR kit.

I wonder if the Wright brothers were doing whorehouse runs before they invented penicillin?

Just curious?

I personally don’t even want to be a survivor of the coronavirus, as I don’t enjoy being that sick.

Having said that, I feel very badly for the chicas we still stay in touch with that are eventually going to face eviction even if they have Ch*ldren, as it appears so far the government has not stopped people from being kicked out of their apartments. Which seems horrible since the mandate is to “stay at home” to slow the spread.

I don’t even like to imagine what that would look like if these beautiful people were on the street with their K*ds.

Any updates on the government stopping these evictions ? I am not ashamed to say I send a little money to one particular chica lately to her to keep her and her family from losing their apartment in Jaco. Her rent is only $380 a month, but her income is now zero , with a family. Not a young girl, but beautiful. I’m sure some of you do the same- but maybe don’t admit it. The government needs to stop the evictions.

Costa Rica will open up to tourists. It represents 9.6% of their gnp.
I believe June 15 it will open.

Border closing just officially extended until at least June 30.

It has become so horrible in Costa Rica, girls are being blocked from receiving WesternUnion due to them receiving thousands of dollars triggering criminal investigations! Don’t send them money, you are only getting them in trouble.

They are now looking for straw men to go collect the thousands you all are sending to them via Western Union, Money Gram, etc.

This isn’t a rumor, this is from the horse’s mouth.

That explains all those new WU kiosks at the MultiPlazas, the ones next to the shoe stores.

Do you think tourists will have to do the 14 day quarantine too? People booking hotel rooms better be thinking this through. Book your room for 14 night!

Thanks for the info, although you being the horses mouth makes me wonder who you are?

I’ve been a member over a 15 year period. But I don’t post much-Not really a stranger to the gulch, But not familiar with you guys and who you are. You all seem very intelligent and humorous

Fortunately I didn’t use Western Union and I told her I couldn’t send any more money. I put a limit on it, because this could go on forever.

I was really concerned about them doing the “no eviction law”

Easy to imagine how this could be a bigger problem than finding a vaccine, to put those on the street that can’t pay rent. Separating their Ch*ldren, etc. I was really hoping for an answer to that

but thanks for the info/ From the horses mouth
