Can anyone on the ground there report on the status of the Sportsmans Lodge? Is it even open? Is it completely dead? I was thinking about passing by in early May unless it is a ghost town.

Not sure how you are going to get there. Unless you are a Tico or permanent resident you are not getting in, also you will be required to quarantine for a couple of weeks before leaving your house.

One of the lucky ones then. I have had my trip canceled and rebooked 3 times now, hoping I can get in, in July to see the family. First time in about 12 years I have stayed in the US for my birthday, no fun thats for sure.

I'd stay in the Southern Zone for a while. Infection rates appear much lower there.

I would there or anywhere up "into the hills" at least three turns from the main highway to avoid the virus and people it infects. This is like shit you see in a Sci-Fi movie but for real. Maybe not as bad there but NYC, major east coast very hard hit.

to answer original question, my understanding is both the bar and hotel are closed. My guess would be they would open when CR allows foreigners to travel to CR at the earliest.

timing would be critical....if the planned May 15th date of allowing internationals to enter, that will give them time to reopen for the Memorial Day weekend crowd and then Bill's Birthday party.

Things seem to be looking very grim regarding air travel in Latin America for the near future.

Argentina has banned all flights to, from, or within the country until at least Sept. 1.

Copa Airlines, my go to, is shut down now, but previously said they were gonna resume operation on June 1, now don't seem to be selling any tickets for any dates for the rest of the year to Costa Rica or Colombia.

Looking my Colombia trip in June & my bday July trip to SJO are not gonna happen.
