There was a guy who touted himself as the mongers' guide. He was shot and killed in a bar in Laureles about 6 years ago.

That guy was nothing like Pops. The Medellin guy ran afoul of some drug guys (reportedly, and was shot in the the side of the head while sitting in a bar in Medellin, so the story goes),

There was another guy - who shall remain nameless - who ran a "introduction/orientation" business in MDE for a few years, had a website and everything. He ended up in Colombian jail and did a Jeffrey Epstein.

Exactly. That's why a majority of us ex-pats like to keep a low profile.

Not really as far as I know. But once you get to know people there you will find lots who are willing to help. And as it is much bigger than SJ it's not possible to do a walking tour to most of the known venues. Not anywhere as compact as SJ.

And no one is going to advertise as such. You don't want to be on that radar.

Try to get a fb thing going.. and get going on your Spanish (and learn how to spell Medellin )

Networking using the usual social media forums like we would do at home is out of the question (for obvious reasons).

Not obvious at all.

Facebook is exactly how most mongers network and set up dates in MDE. Just set up a burner account.

As some have mentioned there were 2 guys that used to do “tours” in MDE. 1 was shot in a bar in Laureles (while sitting with a newbie to whom he was giving a tour), the other killed himself in a Colombian jail. I don’t know Pops but he seems to be a stand up guy and a straight shooter, while neither of these guys would be anyone you would want to associate with even if you still could.

At one time, one of the owners of the Mansion properties used to give MP tours in el centro to the guests there. I went on one during one of my first trips to MDE and it was actually pretty good. But it’s been a while since I’ve had anything to do with the Mansion and I don’t believe the guy is doing this anymore or even still a part of the Mansion. But if you stay there you could always ask.

Other than that, there is nothing that I know of similar to what Pops does in CR. If you hook up with a guy that is a MDE vet while you are there most would probably be willing to go to an MP or 2 with you. Other than that most everything happens via social media down there. It’s a very different scene than CR.
