5 hours to get from San Jose to Jaco on the bus...2 blockages. 8 hours to get from Jaco to Manuel Antonio via Uber after buses stopped running...2 complete road blocks.

It's the government's brilliant idea of raising prices with taxes instead of fixing the problems. 13% tax added to all the things people cannot live without. Food, Utilities, Gas, etc. Instead of fixing the bleeding and making the worst offenders pay what they should be paying they are phucking those that can least afford it and they are pissed. It is not going to get better until heads roll. Even pu*sy is going to be taxed. If you rent a house and it is over 700.000 colones per month there is now a 13% tax on it. Where does the money go????? No one really knows. Corruption at its finest.

I called my lawyer about the rumor of taxing pu*sy. He confirmed it is true, but in order to be fair, the rate is set on a sliding scale. You are required to go to the Ministry of Jobs and have your penis measured. You then pay 5% for every inch over the national average penis length.

Good News! I am getting a big Tax Credit!

LMAO!

It's sad how these corrupt clowns are driving this wonderful little country into the ground and stacking bills and magnificent pensions for themselves.

10 years ago I lived and worked here for an international internet gambling company, I was a manager of one of the internet sites, we had about 10. We paid intelligent educated ticos and ticas starting pay of $1,000 a month for phone and chat work and many could get up to $1,500 and tico/tica managers of small departments could see 2k a month, we had about 100 tico/tica employees making great money for CR. They taxed and hustled and harassed the company so much, they moved out to Eastern Europe and now just maintain a skeleton crew here.

A friend of mine had a small company here, sewing, he had about 10 older ticas, sewing labels on shirts for businesses, was profitable to ship them down, sew and ship back. He was doing great, the ladies making about $800 a month, and he provided other benefits, they were poor and uneducated but could sew like the wind, lol.

$800 a month to them was like 6 figures a year to us. Same crap. He finally went to Nicaragua and Nicaragua welcomed him with open arms, he pays less in rent, taxes, salaries, etc.

I moved here to retire a year and 1/2 ago, hadn't been here in 2 years before that and I was stunned in that short period of time how expensive food got. I'm not talking USA imports, I'm talking local grown foods, fruits, vegs, meat, and omg, just regular fish is filet mignon pricing!

So far, it's still dramatically cheaper overall for me than in the USA, but if the trend continues, I have friends in Medellin, Colombia who tell me things are much cheaper, the city is huge, modern and clean, and the girls are generally sweeter and not so jaded, they seldom pay for a 1 hour pounding, it's always more of a date, a gfe, and cheaper!

I spent the money and took the time to get residency, but if this trend continues and things get much worse, Colombia here I come...
