Relative newbie here about to embark on my first trip to Costa Rica. Have a question regarding bringing a chica from San Jose for a 4 day trip to La Fortuna, as there doesn't to be anything available there. I would be paying all expense (food, hotel, activities, etc) - what kind of money should I be offer her per night for?

As a newbie, this can get complicated. To find a ready, willing and able lady to join you, especially, after knowing her for an hour or so, is challenging, but not impossible. Money talks.
Many of the ladies you meet have families and cannot truly commit to taking off 4 days from their obligations.
Even those of us who have lived here for a while still have trouble putting it all together. American logic would say, she would jump at the chance to enjoy a vacation at our expense and get paid too ! But not necesarily

$100 a day or so, plus all expenses can be arranged, yet she may need a down payment to leave with her family before she can leave with you, and she may not come back, lol
The Dominicans and some younger ladies without responsibilties may be an easier sell.

It is true that the p4p options in La Fortuna is slim. If you have some game, there are a couple of hostels in the area that cater to vacationing young foreigners and you might get a bite.

First, to take someone you barely know on a 4-day trip out of their home area is certainly fraught with danger. What happens if after 12-24-36 hours either (a) you get tired of her shit or (b) she gets tired of yours? Does she speak English well enough to where you can carry on a conversation? Or do you speak Spanish well enough?

Are you looking for a companion to hang out with? Or are you looking for a piece of eye candy furniture that will sit quietly in the corner until you want to have sex?

So, that leads into the second part (after compatibility) - what are your expectations versus her expectations?

I know a great chica - fun personality, good English, etc. that went on a trip like this and it turned to shit because she couldn't do weed - the guy she was with was totally anti-weed.

Looking back on my Costa Rica experience, the road trips with company were a lot of fun while exploring the rest of the country. I usually got to know the woman first, but there were a couple of times, I pulled the trigger quickly after only knowing her the day before. I can think of two instances where the short-fused guests did not work out: Once I got stood up by a Colombiana and the second time was with a PITA I had met at Sportsmens. I would recommend not pulling the trigger too quickly. Other than that, the others were or either became friends and favoritas.

Picking up the tab for your date is reasonable and expected. Also, the issue of baby-sitting and other ancillary costs may come up. Factor that into "overhead." Make sure you and your guest understand and agree to this friendly arrangement. Disagreements may arise, but if things get too out of control, don't hesitate to buy her a bus ticket, and try to enjoy what is left of your roadtrip.

Recently had a friend get burned by not making it clear to her customer that dropping everything and going with him to a resort was not a vacation to her and compensation was expected. It ended up ugly with threat of photos going to his wife's facebook account.
Their bills continue whether they are in San Jose or Arenal. I know the fantasy is they are with you because they like you but get real. Twenty year old women would prefer to be with guys their own age than geriatric Gringo tourists if money was not involved. It is your vacation, she is part of the entertainment. If sex is not involved she is a companion to share meals with and give you insight about the country and culture. Include sex and it is like inviting an electrician to a weekend at your lake house and expecting him to rewire it out of gratitude. Think you can go to Vegas, stay in a great hotel, call and escort to your room and for her not to charge because she likes the king sized bed, room service and jacuzzi? Fair compensation is what she would make per day if she was not with you. If she is an mp girl or a girl that averages one customer a day then $100 is fair. I have known mp girls that consistently made $200 per day. If she is a girl that has no problem making $500 a day at the Cocal you need to negotiate. Most women that I know expect a minimum of $200 per day if you expect unlimited access to sex. Most of them would prefer going to the beach on the bus, staying in a cabin for $20 a night and making $400 a day than going to Baldi Hot Springs, eating $40 meals and getting $100 a day. To them sex is work and a bed is a bed. It doesn't factor in if you are young, handsome, with a 9" dick.
Put yourself in their position. It is kind of like the I feel when I go into the Del Rey and most of the women I see are older than 30, over weight, too much makeup, silicon, hardcore expressions. How much would one of them have to pay me to have sex with them. Sorry from most of them I would expect way more than cien and I doubt that there is enough Viagra in the world for me to perform. I wouldn't be a good working girl.

I agree more along with what Pops says.

First, if you are new to Costa Rica (sounds like it)...I would suggest getting to know someone first and see them a couple of times locally first. I find a lot of times the second or third time with a lady is a COMPLETELY different experience. IF you are lucky enough to find someone, then keep her contact and plan the get away next time in town.

Also don't be cheap about it as Pops says. When I first read your initial post, in my mind I though between $200 and $300 a day would be fare to all parties assuming sex was involved.

maybe a good option is find someone and ask her to come out there for a day and see what that would cost you. Nothing long term, yet some fun.

I took a few girls on trips but they were ones I got to know over multiple trips. The chances of things going sideways are better than you think and if you do not speak good spanish you will be in trouble. If you do decide to take one lay down the ground rules and make sure she knows if there is a problem you will give her some bus money and she will be finding her own way back. Also, I would give them money for childcare and food for the little ones but usually 20-35 per day was sufficient and give that up front. On another note I would ask if they needed anything for the trip, bathing suit, clothes, personal items etc and take them shopping but within a reasonable limit. I would also pay them when the trip was done, however I would pay for things she wanted to buy as gifts for the K*ds or her. They did know I was not going to let them go crazy on spending. I would usually pay 100.00 per day, and of course food, drinks, and whatever fun we did, ATV, zip lines, etc. The max amount of time was 4 days I would have them away from home. Make sure you set some ground rules for phone use as well while you are gone, as that will more than likely be an issue.

Thanks for all the thoughtful responses everyone! I'll just enjoy La Fortuna solo for this trip and have fun in San Jose. Since it's the first (of hopefully many) trips to Costa Rica, it seems it's not worth the potential downsides to pursue this at this point.

Couldn't agree with your conclusion more. Meet a few girls in SJ and if you really like one get her number and hook up on a subsequent trip. That would still come with major YMMV, but at least you will know a little more what you're getting into.

A few things I have done in the La Fortuna area are the chocolate tour, and the Cavernas de Venado. Having a car makes it much easier to get around and if you go to the Cave tour it is about an hour away.

For 25.00 I thought it was worth the time to learn a little about how chocolate grows and is made along with other fruits grown in Costa Rica. There is a fair amount of local knowledge passed along and if you do not spanish they have a guide that speaks english. We opted for the spanish speaking guide though.

This place is one of the most fun I have been to in Costa Rica and for 28.00 well worth it. If you have problems walking or hiking it is not for you though. The entrance to the cave is not too far away but it is a steep walk down but there is a decent trail to it, going up was easier for me but you will get a work out. The pool afterward was a bit cool but it was refreshing after the hike up and we ended up swimming for close to an hour.

The restaurants in La Fortuna can be a bit pricey as most cater to the tourists and charge in accordance. We did however eat at Restaurante la Parada.

The food was actually pretty good and the prices were very reasonable. Out of 4 times eating there all 16 plates were good and the pizza was surprisingly decent. We did eat at the Lava Lounge, the food was good, but it was twice the price of Restaurante la Parada.

I would certainly hit one of the hot springs places while you are there as well as some zip lining and or atv riding depending on weather.

I've phucked hundreds of P4P women in CR. I've only taken ONE on trips. Many. A regular who I absolutely adore.

I'd NEVER take a puta on a trip that I didn't know REAL well.
