Actually, there are only about half a dozen active Nicas on SA.

My contacts in San Juan Del Sur tell me that it’s safe and fun. I tend to believe them.

But not much of a monger scene to attract you guys to San Juan Del Sur.

Lots of P4P girls in Managua, but I certainly wouldn’t go there. I’m waiting for reports on Grenada.

I have a similar information about SJSand other beach towns, but everyone should evaluate how much risk he can take on any location. Now, I am taking a wait and see attitude to travel to Nicaragua. Just to be clear, Nicaragua has never been a mongering place. It is nothing to compare to Costa Rica or Colombia on P4P. Maybe, you can find two or three MP’s in Managua and with average girls there. Outside Managua, it is mostly catch and bait with spanish speaking girls, on bars and discotheques catering to locals. Sometimes, hotel staff knows and can connect you with the right girl in town, very discretely.

It's probably not as unstable as you might think. Their currency has only devalued 7% in the last year, similar to the colone. If you get caught up in the wrong spot a lot could go wrong. Same could happen driving by an antifa protest in Oregon.

There is a good movie to help you imagine what could happen called "SALVADOR". James Woods and Jim Belushi.

Not good. Tourism has cratered. The economy too. People fleeing the country. Massive repression. Massive imprisonment, torture, rape and murder by masked Ortega thugs. A bloody-handed dictatorship whose mask of legitimacy has fallen off.

On the Ground report. Outside of a few beach towns for surfing not much is going on in Nicaragua currently. Granada has very little activity going on with most hotels and restaurants still closed, with the exception of a few backpackers. San Juan del Sur is safe, but is not a mongering town anymore. It use to be that the nightly activities in Nicaragua did not really start tell after 10pm when the clubs started rocking, now most Nica’s are home with their doors locked after sunset. Managua has been hit especially hard, I would never think of venturing out after dark anymore. The police are concentrating on arresting people who have been involved in the protests and spend little time going after crimes committed, so the end result is crime has increased. Add in the high unemployment from the unrest and crime is a very big concern. Don’t waste your time if you are looking at mongering in Nicaragua, it is not worth it. There are much better and safer places to monger then Nicaragua. Hope it changes soon.

Great report on Nicaragua.

It confirms what I was getting by email from my contacts.

Lots of other good places to go.

I traveled to Leon, Nicaragua in late January, 2019. Flew into Managua on Delta and noticed the plane was about 75% full even though Delta had cut down the number of flights into Nic. Breezed through customs and immigration; was a bit concerned about customs since I had brought a lot of gifts but there were no hassles. Was immediately met by a driver arranged from my hotel "El Convento" and we recognized each other from a previous trip to Leon a couple of years ago.
The hotel had been closed for three months and had re-opened in December. Staff at the hotel told me that business was not back to normal but was picking up. The room rate on a beautiful, well appointed room was a bit under $60 and a great bargain.
I did not see any signs of demonstrations or violence of any type; however neither did I look for that. I was cautious with my comments to people I did not know. I was visiting a family and attended the baptism of a family member at one of the local Catholic churches. Those that I did talk with were universally opposed to President and Vice President husband and wife Daniel and Rosario Ortega. However, those individuals told me they were careful not be actively opposing Ortega; looking forward to the next election when they hope Ortega will not run.
I cannot comment on the situation related to looking for short term relationships with women as that was not an interest of mine on this trip.
Actually, had I not been well aware of the past year of civil unrest and demonstrations, the number of young people killed, etc. I would not have noticed any changes except for a decline in foreign tourism.

Thank you. That's a nice, informative report on the situation in Nicaragua. Your report could easily tip the scales as to visiting or not for me, as I have read nothing but horror stories prior.
