I'm planning on a 3-4 day trip any time before June and I'm going solo. I have a few questions:

1. I'm aiming to stay at the Sportsman Lodge and picking up some girls there. However I also want to try going to the Hotel Del Rey. If I get a girl there, can I get like an hourly room there? What are the prices like for girl+room?

2. I hear there is an off season. My only free time is now to June as my class starts then. I'm planning on going before then and don't want to run into a ghost town though I also want to book a cheap flight.

3. How is the internet there? Will my smartphone easily pick up the wifi there if it's available?

I've never used sim cards outside of the states. I have T-mobile, do I get a t-mobile like sim over there? Is it safe to walk around?

If you have T-Mobile you will be fine. No need for local sim card. Data and text free, calls to US or wherever $0.20 per minute. Data will be 2G. You can pay for faster data.

I find 2G data slow but adequate enough. Most of the time I’m on WiFi at one of the local establishments. The one recommendation to deal with slow 2G speed is to pre-download maps so you have them available offline. Google maps are downloadable, or I also use an App, City Maps 2 Go. Takes a little pre-planning, but well worth it. Nothing worse than standing on a street corner for 5 min waiting for the map to download at 2G speed to figure out where you are.

Do not bother to get a SIM card for only 4 days.
Download WhatsApp. on your phone and use WiFi only for sending messages/data/email. The SL allows free local calls and I think also free calls to the US. I know the Castillo does.
WiFi is available at many hotels and restaurants. A good strong signal is available at Cafe Miel round the corner from SL on Ave. 9. Just have a cup of coffee and ask them to give you their password.

I don't just have a SIM card. I have a complete phone that has a Costa Rican number. I keep my CR WhatsApp on it.

I can WhatsApp on it over WiFi when I am back in the US, but it doesn't blow up my US phone.
