Heading to Jaco for next week.
Looking forward to lots of fun.
How dangerous is it walking in town from bar to bar or hotel to hotel?
It seems there is only one main road in town so I would assume there would be some police presence being such a tourist visited town.
Should I never have my cell phone With me after dark?
(I phone x).
Seems like uber could come in handy if no taxis are around but no phone means no uber.
I have searched online for crime on Jaco and not much comes up.
Any links would be appreciated if you have them.

You are correct there is one main road in town. Its 200 - 300 meters to the beach from the main road. Most of the hotels are in this area.

Walking around town During the day - absolutely no problem
After dark until 10 pm is fine - lots of restaurants open and tourists around
After midnight I would be cautious - take a taxi - Jaco is small, taxi fare is small. $2 is no big deal to be safe

I have never tried to call an Uber in Jaco. I wouldn't carry a phone if I was worried and Uber was my only use for it. Taxis are around the main places.

I have walked alone around Jaco after midnight and felt perfectly safe. But I'm 6'3" and and a solid 230 lbs. I can get away with more than most. Of course if you are stumbling drunk you are a target no matter what.

It is advisable to be off the street after about 8 P.M. in most places.
Plan to be where ever you want to be by 8. Then take a taxi home.
I would not carry a phone, credit cards or watch. Keep cash you think you will need in your pocket.
After all the locals know this is a tourist town and will look for easy prey.

Unless you have one of those Apple overpriced phones in the $1,000 and up range, carry your phone everywhere you go, it's your lifeline.

You're not in Kansas anymore, Vern, you're in a 3rd world country and every thug on the street looking at you knows you have money and is contemplating how to get it...

here are some safety tips:

-leave the $1000 cell phone at home, if anybody sees it (and recognizes it as such) in the street, you WILL get it robbed. that's a year salary in CR.
-leave ALL jewelry/watch at home
-don't walk around drunk (or tipsy) in the street
-don't accept open drinks (especially from girls/unknown people)
-don't leave drink out unattended (don't let somebody drop anything in it)
-don't buy/sell/take drugs
-limit walking around after dark, taxi for more than 1-2 blocks
-don't flash cash in public
-put anything of any value in the room away BEFORE inviting any girls over
