I am looking for rooms for my amigos on anniversary weekend. Does the Don Carlos have chica fees? Are they chica friendly. Besides the Hotel Amon, what else is in that area?
Thanks

You used to be able to bring in one girl per day if you registered her as a 2nd guest (ie paid the double rate). Since they got a new female manager its no longer quite that simple. Someone said you can still bring a chica back later at night if you're very discrete and tip the night-guy, but I can't verify that. It is a very nice B&B, particularly if all you plan on doing are MP's and on-premise strip clubs. If you do stay there I recommend room #10 - very large with a balcony directly across from NF.

As for other hotels in the area besides the Amon, I'm surprised a well-traveled vet like you has to ask. I see you were asking about the Castillo in another thread. Here is a partial list running 3 blocks in either direction:
Hotel Amistad - on corner of A11/C15 not recommended
Hotel Rincon de San Jose - corner of A9/C15 (across from Cafe Mundo) hotel not recommended but apartment has been.
Sportsmens Lodge - C13 A9/11 - I'm sure you already know all about this one but have found it fully booked
Hotel Castillo - A9 C9/11 - mixed reports, see other thread
Hotel Hemingway - A9/C9 - 2nd hand info is that it is not chica friendly
Casa Verde - A9 C7/9 - next door to NF - I know nothing about this one
    Dunn Inn - A11/C13 - $10 chica fee
Amon Plaza - A11/C3b - you already know all about this one
Hotel Inca Real - A11/C3 - $10 chica fee not much reported here except http://www.costaricaticas.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=50584
Hotel Brittania - A11/C3 - no info re: chicas

The Don Carlos has a lady gerente whose no-puta policy is pretty hardline. The night security guard told me when I stayed there that if he allowed a guest to bring in a woman of "obbviously bad reputation" that he could and would lose his job.

The security at the Hotel Don Carlos is actually a sub-contractor, not an employee of the hotel, he continued to inform me, and allowing hookers into the hotel could endanger his employers' relationship with the hotel.

Yes, it's possible. I personally witnessed five walks of shame across the center courtyard during the 8 nights I stayed there, so I know it can be done...but man, you'd have to be discreet and not try to bring her to breakfast. Might be okay for late-night ST, but lousy for TLN.

BTW, unless you can't get reservations at the Amon, think of this: The $75.00 rate with the CRT discount through Nixon at the casino , which includes all taxes and free breakfast, means that your room price is around$64.00 before tax. This brings the
"posher" Amon to within $1.50 of Hotel Don Carlos' lowest green-season single rate before tax.

The Amon is chica-friendly, although as it is a business hotel and home to nice folks traveling to see rain forests, one still has to be discreet. This was told to me by two veterans who have stayed and played there. Also, if she's going to be spending the night, you'll need to pay a $10.00 guest fee; as far as I can tell from reading, there is no fee charged for ST visits.

Either way, you're a cab ride at night to the Gulch, as you would be at Castillo, Sportsmen's, Dunn Inn and others in that neighborhood, but you're a block from ZB and two and a half short blocks from NF.
