Making my first trip to CR on 9/26-10/1 to celebrate my birthday. Spending 9/26/-9/30 at the SL before heading to a hotel closer to the airport for an early flight out on 10/1/. I already got Whatsapp loaded on my phone and ATT international day pass will be activated the day I leave for CR. So far here is the plan for my first day:

• Arrive in the afternoon on 9/26. Need to get cash from ATM and stop at the duty free for some in room beverage.

• Uber or taxi to the SL. Still not sure on Uber since I’ve only used it once in the states.

• After getting checked in, find somewhere to get passport pages copied.

• Check out the local sites.

The next few days I will go where the days take me. I want to check out at least one of the MP I have been reading about all these months. My last night at the SL I am aiming for a nice TLN. Who ever the lucky one is will leave with dinero and whatever, alcohol and condoms are left over.

If any one will be around during that time frame and is willing to show the newbie around I’d be grateful.

Cross the street to the garage when leaving the baggage claim and go upstairs on the elevator. When facing the check-in area turn left and go to the bank on your left. I got c563 per dollar and they exchanged $500 without blinking. And since you have your passport with you (they will ask for it), no problem.
Also, on the second floor of the INS building there is a bank on the right (forget the name) and they have an ATM off to the left. I was able to get c200k from the ATM which surprised my wingman (who wound up exchanging at this bank for c562 / $ (I think). The INS building is very near the SL... just a few blocks...

• After getting checked in, find somewhere to get passport pages copied. The front desk at the SL will do this for you.

I made my virgin trip recently and need to return for a bit more dental work and chica work! You are going there during the week I am looking at, but my plan isn't set yet. If I'll be there I'll shoot you a line.

ATT international day pass = $10 a day, 5x10=$50
you can get a Kolbi sim card and minutes for a whole month for alot cheaper

@ 3rdquarterking - Ok, plans made, I'll be there Sept 25-30. We'll have to get together for a beer. I'm still pretty new to CR but I did learn a thing to two last trip! LOL

Check your PMs, King.

I would take an orange cab from the airport, Uber is great all over town, but has been hassled lately at the airport.

Check your phone for a call setting that says " Make Calls over wi-fi" if you turn that on, you will make and receive all calls, just like you're in the states. Then use whats app for all of costa rica. If you need a CR number get an inexpensive chip from Kolbi or Claro when you land

Passport copies are a suggestion, not a necessity. You can copy the main page and the page with the entry stamp, That's all.

The MP's are a great value. I would suggest you try one, maybe Monica's or HLH in the daytime and then you won't be so needy when you hang at the HDR, or SL later on. lol

For your first time, please try to be flexible. CR throws alot of different curves to any plans you may have.

thanks for the tips. yeah i plan on bring US dollars. My initial plan is to travel with about 200, and then withdraw the rest when I got there. What is the max I can get though immigration with ? I'll ask them to copy the passport page when i check in. You reminded me that I forgot to note to remove everything from the room mini bar when I made the reservation. I have to do that before I arrive.

I budgeted for this. even though it is cheaper than the ATT international day pass, I don't really need a CR number since I have whats app. My phone is a dual sim phone so I could get a sim card, and add that in. But since i know ATT works, and for 10 dollars a day gets me the data I will need. Plus I don't want to have t worry about how much data I'm using with a pre-paid sim.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I have been checking the weather in SJ and it says it has been raining just about every day. I hope I get a few days of sunshine when I'm there.

You can bring up to $10k before you have to report it. If you are bringing that then i will fly down and meet you to help spend it :)
I usually bring about $400 then hit the scotia bank ATM right past luggage on the right. The fees are fair. I keep the USD in case ATMs are down any given day (and have been).

For mini bar, i usually take the whole tray and put it on top of the armoir or top of closet. Thats for the dry goods, you will have to watch for the fridge, but it is handy to have after a great session.

As far as rain goes, it will happen so come prepared with a jacket, you can get an umbrella there. Since you will be at SL, there will be chicas there regardless unless its just non stop and the numbers will be down. Take advantage of the good weather though in the AM because many days start out awesome and by noon the weather rolls in. Have been there 4 times this summer and the rain was not a huge issue.

I just realized i typed the wrong arrival date in. I am going to be there on the 27th through the 1st. Staying at the SL from 9/27-9/30. I took the 26th off form work, before I leave. Sorry for mistake.
