Hey all.

Assuming I really wanted to stay at Cocal in Jaco, for the reasons you’d assume, what would be the very best alternative options with Cocal being full? Priorities of course are location, fun factor, etc, and hopefully at or under $100. Anything similar to Cocal, or would I just be going to Cocal and bringing amigas back to the other hotel?

Thanks!

You'll be pulling from Cocal regardless...well, if you're a male model who speaks fluent Spanish, maybe not. Otherwise, yes. Recent changes have formerly chica-friendly hotels charging a fee now. Someone will be able to help with a suggestion. I'm not sure anymore. Best of luck to you.

Check Mango Mar which is right next door, about 50 extra feet from the last parking lot room at Cocal. They market themselves as “family friendly”, but there is no problem if you are discrete and no chica fee. I posted a review of my stay in April viewtopic.php?f=4&t=50859

Thanks guys! I was also looking at Beach Break—can anyone confirm whether it’s (still) chica-friendly?

I don’t recall talking with anyone who has stayed at Beach Break, so can’t relate anything I’ve heard. It is probably 15 min walk to Cocal, which is no big deal, although Jaco is always Hot!

The best policy on chica fees is to ask the hotel directly, either call or email. It is not my favorite conversation to have and can be uncomfortable, especially if there are language issues and you have trouble explaining exactly what you are asking. But, it is way better than just showing up and hoping for the best.
