My question is simple, how important is the condition and comfort of your hotel room while staying in CR ?
Everyone has different opinions. Since I am "in the business" (manage a guest property) I have a critical eye so I discount a lot of what I see because the average guest isn't going to see it / look for it.
I also somewhat understand the difficulty of doing business in Costa Rica but don't have the issues hotels in San Jose have. For example - no one steals my Lodge's towels.
Personally, I don't want a 'corporate / international' experience. As I remarked in the other thread, I've stayed in the Hilton Garden Inn La Sabana and the rooms are very nice - the restaurant is meh - and the pool is beautiful but unusable (the constant wind!).
I want more of an eclectic, almost fraternal vibe. Which I get at the Castillo. I actually prefer the bar at the Amistad for ambiance, but the bartenders at the Castillo (though Monica is gone). The rooms at the Amistad are a bit quirky.
Actually one of my favorite rooms is 13, at the top of the stairs, at the Castillo. It's definitely quirky! I like the couch. The bathroom is a bit rough but it's fine.
What I like about the Castillo (and the Amistad, but I've been staying at the Castillo) is the staff. I feel like I'm at home.
