Was at the Sportsman 4/16-4/20. Have to say that it was a very great experience. I was in the La Paz room so I was front and center in the action.

There are some reviews on other sites that complain about the noise level, and while it does exist, a good understanding of Latin American culture they would know that is quite normal. To me the noise was never an issue but was actually a perk as I felt more immersed in the culture of Costa Rica. The Sportsman does an outstanding job a blending US and Costa Rican cultures in a relaxing atmosphere.

The Sportsman also does an outstanding job also at preserving the original architecture of the original structure while at the same time bringing in modern features.

The most important aspect (apart for the lovely ladies) was the staff and other guest. From the moment I got out of the cab until I got in the one to take me back to the airport, I did not feel so much as a guest, but more like a member of the family. A feeling I have not had in other hotels. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. There are not enough kind words I can say about them...on a scale of 1-10 they are definitely an 11.

I will be staying at the Sportsman on my next trip.

I usually wear mine also, comfort and many pockets. It's laughable how much this subject is talked about. Like a bunch of old ladies sitting around gossiping worrying about everyone else's business.

I lost a passport once because it fell out of a pocket somewhere. With the cargo shorts I can zip it in or button the pocket closed. Since I drive in Costa Rica I have to carry the passport with me a copy of it will not do when I get stopped.

I could care less what people think of my shorts as they are functional and suit the purpose that I need them for.......

I sure am glad Bill smiled at me though

I live 10 minutes away and about once a week go there for their sea bass, it's phenomenal. Surprisingly, often between noon and 4 or 5, they have a nice group of girls hanging around, usually a couple to up to 10, but surprisingly often some real hotties that early, and often HDR is a morgue at those times...

I love the Sportsmens and I love my cargo shorts. I agree with the OP that the noise is part of the experience but it can be distracting if you are trying to go to sleep early in one of the courtyard rooms

How were the girls at SL and were there a good number? High quality? I am debating here and Castillo and trying to weigh the two against each other based on the rooms, the girls etc.

Thanks!

There are no girls hanging around the Castillo. The SL is only about a block from Castillo, so you can meet the girls at SL and bring them back to Castillo
