Wifi strong but food quality on the decline at L.A.!
They even changed the Papas Fritas. Went from world class to flash frozen truck stop fries.

In other news, the Castillo food is topshelf with the exception of the papas fritas.

We changed the Che’s at the Amistad this week so learning curve. The French fries are temporary while potatoes are $5 per kilo ( normally $1.50 per kilo. Hopefully this month prices will get back in line

Don't know where you shop but I never ever saw potato's selling for 5$ a kilo.
Kinda reminds me of the no lobster with surf and turf because they were out of season for ten months of the year.

Actually in December and January potato prices at Pali, went up from 1800 per kilo to 21oo per kilo during the 3 1/2 weeks I was in town. Some other places were selling at 3k per kilo for them. The feria in Alajuela had most booths at 1800, but a couple were 1500, and you could see the difference in the quality of the potato's.

Hope the problemas are temporary. Just ordered lunch and no chicken soup available and no chocolate cake! Seems to be a repeat of Sept 2017. this is my 6 time at L.A. in 25 months. so, the problem are surprising to me.

I just spent 4 nights at the Castillo staying in P1 Suite. I really enjoyed my stay. Big shout out to Leo (front desk), Ernesto & Monica (bar), and Denora (housekeeping and breakfast cook). Plenty of hot water in the shower and a balcony overlooking San Jose and the zoo. My room was arguably the best in the house, while some may prefer the Pool Room; it used to be where the pool table was, not la piscina. The all-inclusive was a no brainier for me. 1 meal a day would cover the cost...I usually had 2-3 meals a day there...plus drinks that were included. Top shelf was provided at a 50% discount, although I usually drank Imperial Light cervesas. I also went to La Amistad for a meal which is in the all-inclusive plan, too. You can switch back and forth at will...at least as of right now. Thanks go out to Curt, Dan and Harvey for the guidance and friendship they provided to this newb.

I will likely stay at LA on my next trip in order to compare it to the Castillo. LA is smaller than the Castillo and perhaps more "quaint." LA may even be a little more modern. I have been told the nearby (very nearby) train can be an issue for some.

SL was okay to hang out and have a few drinks, but I don't want to sleep there. No offense to the many of you who love the place and the convenience. I prefer to chill out from time to time without constant interuption from the ticas, but that's just me. Castillo and LA don't let uninvited ticas in, although there is no guest fee when you do want company.

PURA VIDA!

Potatoes are still crazy prices. As for lobster and shrimp still not allowed to harvest in Costa Rica. All imported and 18-24,000 per kilo for something that once cost 8,000 per kilo. Obviously can not sell surf and turf for $12 including tax and tip. We try to move with the market and still maintain a competitive edge against cost. We lowered the all inclusive at Amistad by $10 while increasing the cost $10 at Castillo. As stated you can eat and drink in either place free if you are all inclusive. IMO still a fantastic deal.

Good update on the lobster and shrimp situation. Did not know that. Is that a temporary or permanent thing. ?
Just bought potatoes the other day for 1500 c per kilo. Thats a little high. I buy potatos every week and never saw potatos for even 2000c per kilo.
Hand cut fries are delicious much better than frozen. More and more places are selling the hand cut fries in CR. They call them gajos.
Your places are well known for its excellent food. Keep up the good work.

They did come down this week and we are going back to hand cut potatoes this week. It has been three years now on no commercial fishing of shrimp and lobster supposedly to let the stocks come back. I have the suspicion that it has more to do with pollution. All our seafood comes from Chile

You mean crawdads. Those poor things they call lobster there are tiny.

I did find a place in Puntarenas that I could buy frozen lobster tails for 10k per kilo but there are about 15 tails in a kilo. At the feria in Alajuela I have been able to buy U15 shrimp for 6k per kilo
