I was raised a dumb redneck and to be a racist. I have worked with a few black people but never really had any interaction with them. After getting to know many black guys while mongering in Costa Rica, I admit I was wrong. These guys have been some of the most soft hearted and good people I have ever met. One guy I met at La Amistad (a retired police officer) told me of a failed relationship he had in Costa Rica and that the only concern he had was that the Tica was misrepresenting him and that her K*ds would grow up thinking black men were bad. I was so impressed with this guy.I absolutely stand corrected.

I do not pass judgement on people until I have a chance to interact with them. Skin color or ethnicity for me has never been a issue as to whether I would share a table or bar stool with someone. I will say though that if you walk around like a thug, with your pants around your knees, cannot speak in complete sentences and use words that are not found in any dictionary, I am going to look at you as an idiot and not want to be anywhere near the freak-show. People deserve to be judged by their character not by ethnicity, but unfortunately people also are generalized by others actions, those actions, are therefore responsible for the perceptions of a broad amount of people whom should not be labeled as bad people. I do belive though people choose to be stereotyped, simply by the way they dress, the way they act, and by the crowd they hang out with. You cannot help someone that does not want the help, or does not think they need a helping hand. It all comes from the core of a person, if they have a desire to be do the right thing and help others it will be reflected in their actions. If they choose to be a criminal and associate with the wrong crowd it will also be apparent. You can polish a turd all you want, but at the end of the day, it is still a piece of shit.

And by the way, I have enjoyed numerous interludes with many black Ticas, mostly from Limon, and let me tell you, they all have been incredible. :!: :!: :!:

Also, there's a brother who is a taxi driver, about 66 or 67 from Limon, he speaks near perfect English, their accent is more Jamaican like.

He is honest and dependable, works every day from early morning, not sure when, I sleep in, lol, now that I'm semi retired... up to 7 pm but Sunday, worked for Carnival Cruise lines for decades and can be reached at : Noel Smith 6214-6399.

Tell him Marcello sent you...(Netgems nickname)

Spare me. I'm sure that goes for the "stereotypical" hillbillly, long haired, shaggy bearded, drawl speaking redneck as well, right?

This is the biggest crock of BS "It is what it is"! Thank goodness it's changing and the rest of the world is beginning to form their own opinions about cultural differences in the states and elsewhere.

Actually I used to work with one, and he was one of the funniest people I have ever known. Other than his penchant for smoking pot I had a lot of fun with him and his family.

I would say that not only in Costa Rica but everywhere. The same thing happens in the Dominican Republic.
As most people should know, there are a lot black people in Africa but what not many might know is that a lot of white people (men and women) go to Africa to have fun without incidents. There are plenty of places in Africa that are safer than Costa Rica. Right now we have a member from ISOC who is by himself in Kenya and having a damn good time...and making the rest of us jealous!
Most of the time, people would react according to how you treat them, treat them with respect and they will respect you back!

Pink is my favorite color..

I seen the way some Costa Rican’s look at some AA in the airport, know black guys banned from DR for “hanging out” too much I guess. Been referred to as Gringo

Like hanging in AA strip clubs in the states but return to my conservative small town knowing we all have different cultures we feel most comfortable in. Nothing wrong with it..
