I am planning my first trip to CR in a couple weeks and am planning to stay in HDR. My plane will not be landing until 1 am Saturday night.. is this too late to expect to go to HDR and to expect to have a good time? Just wondering what the scene would be like that late at night.

Just looking for some thoughts and guidance. Thanks!! :D

There will be action at that time, but beginning to wind down. If you are wide awake, just get settled in and grab a few drinks and go from there. Some will cycle through after being picked up earlier in the night if you dont see something right away.

Can i piggy back this post?

My flight also lands at 1am but on wednesday night. I'm deciding on if I should stay at a hotel near the airport in Alajuela or grab a cab and head straight to HDR. This is my first trip. Should I go straight to HDR and will there be any girls down at 2am on wed?

I live out by the airport and unless you have friends there, or a place to crash, I would not waste my time. Just get the cab and go into town you won't regret it.

Definitely more girls at HDR than a hotel near the airport. That time of night it will be a quick ride. If I were you I’d go... especially if you’re staying at or near the HDR

Hey Storm_chaser,

I can say I landed at about the same time and went straight to HDR on my first trip this week. After checking in and everything, I was downstairs by ~3 am. I still had a great time. I had fun that night and fun the next day with plenty of good options. It has been my first trip so I have nothing to compare but I’d go straight to HDR.

Also Consider Uber, it was 6200 colones last Thursday night @ 10 pm from the airport to Castillo. No one on the road and was about 20 min drive direct to Castillo.

Tried to do uber from the airport, but couldn't link to wifi. How do you do that at SJO?
I had mixed results with uber in San Jose. Thanks.

There is free WiFi in the airport but I have never had luck with it with WhatsApp (never tried Uber).

This is why you need a phone that works in CR and why I have a CR phone.

Uber works great in the greater SJ / Chepe / Central Valley metropolitan area (even in Cartago).

Project Fi - $60 a month - works in 135 countries including everywhere Movistar is in CR (4 gb data plus unlimited talk & text with unused data paid back so my bill is usually $24 or so).

So my US phone works as soon as I turn it on in SJO.

Kolbi for where there is no Movistar (at the Lodge it's the only carrier). $20 - $30 a month (mostly because Kolbi 3g wifi is so bad).

All CR comms is via WhatsApp on my CR phone (wifi in the US).
