Not that I care for Jaco, actually I think it's a sh*t hole, but now if I want to come to visit Cocal, I got a place to stay! First case of two guys becoming buds thru a chica, I believe.

Did you have a specific bad experience in Jaco or have you been and found it to always be shitty?

Just curious if it's worth going to Jaco. I hear about the girls being amazing but is the city itself so bad it's not worth leaving San Jose for?

a few facts that most of us who are not in love w jaco experienced
arriving in the place when the sun is out you find most people indoors because it cooks
not the wow its hot kind of heat but seriously baking heat
the beaches are a literal sewer w brown foam that is there because the sewage from the hotels dump into the ocean
very few people hang out and its dangerous at night along w the rest of the town
lots of hustlers approach you and the night scene is pretty much one place
there used to be beatle bar and other little places w girls but unless its changed the cocal is kind of the only place
thats a medium sized pool area w putos y putas standing around in a shooting gallery
pretty ladies for sure but its more like a TJ puta hustle that goes on
they approach or you wave them over and they make some pitch and the clock starts ticking
nothing wrong w that, and some guys like it that way, but its hard to vibe much before the deed
no mp scene whatsoever and again the day scene is pretty non existent
that being said i wouldn't discourage a new guy from checking it out since it gets you driving around CR
the new highway isn't as scenic as the old one but its about half as long
and the last time i stopped on my way back from manuel antonio there were some good food choices
you might find out its your go to spot since all of our tastes are different and as always ymmv

I have been going to San Jose 2001-2014 when I decided to try Jaco and stay at the Hotel Cocal. I stayed 4 nights at $81 a night w/tax. The selection at Cocal is similar to Del Rey in 2001-2005. Just so many chicas and so little time. Yeah a lot of them are hardcore but I've been around long enough to avoid them. Now I stay at CROC'S because it's so clean and a great bar, swimming pool, and the only casino in CR that I would gamble in. The downside is the heat, so I bring plenty of shorts. There are a lot good resturants, Manuel Antonio beach is beautiful, I have picked up chicas at the massage places. Anyway I have converted to Jaco. JMHO

How hot can it get in December? I'm seeing temps in the 80s in the coming weeks. Definitely won't be going in the ocean after what you said though.

Hearing good things about the Crocs casino. Gonna check that out for some daytime entertainment during my two day stay, though I will admit I'm considering cutting it down to one day (Friday) and heading back to the gulch for the Saturday fun based on the negative reviews of Jaco (unless you're just trying keep the traffic down in Jaco :D

LaD put it in pretty good excellent accurate prospective. I can't add much to his assessment.

I'm from Ft. Lauderdale, Florida and in 2003 when I first visited Costa Rica, people were calling this sewer on the beach "The Fort Lauderdale of Costa Rica" and Cocal did not exist but the Beatle Bar did. Well, Ft. lauderdale is a beautiful and expensive tony wealthy giant sophisticated world city chock full of mostly unattainable unless you're young or rich stunning beautiful women.

Me and my first time bud, also from Ft. lauderdale, that's all we needed to hear, we rented a car and headed down there. The highway did not exist, the road there through the mountains and the trip there and back was beautiful, that was possibly worth the trip and the rental in and of itself. The other big thrill was parking and looking at the giant crocs under the bridge, they make our Florida gators look like lizards...

Once we got there, it was like, 'WTF"???? This one dusty road town of dirty bars, dirty retaurants and dirty tourist traps looks more like the "Tijuana" of Costa Rica, or if you know Ft. Lauderdale, the "Dixie Highway" of Costa Rica, and that's insulting Dixie Highway...

I actually was asking people "Are you sure this is the place???" In any event, we had booked a dumpy hotel close to the Beatle Bar, clean, but old and small, no a/c, cold showers, my buddies toilet didn't have a seat, just the rim, the hotel had no empty rooms for him to change to, like 6 units total and no spare toilet seats...but walking distance to the Beatle Bar. A light at the end of the tunnel... :)

Might as well make a bad situation good, in those days not too many Ticas there, lots of super hot babes from the Dominican Republic, they were cheap, fun and delivered, and they delivered big! Many Ticas have a network of family and friends, maybe even the baby daddy, they're not desperate. Diff story, here...if you've come to a foreign country to work as a hoe, you're desperate, you want business, you earrrrrn it...the good ones got repeat business, more propinas, more time, more breakfasts, lunches and dinners...

We picked two super hotties for bargain basement prices and in 2003, it was gawd awful cheap in San Jose...We then went back to the Beatle Bar with them after feasting on them initially and falling in lust, they had friends they said would join in. Now we're headed back to the no tell hotel with 2 each, Ft Lauderdale, whaaattt??? Who needs Ft. Lauderdale, I'll be in the real Ft. Lauderdale in a week, now we have this situation... 8)

This doesn't end here, they inform us they have two other great friends. Long story short, me and my buddy in 2 nights and three days in two separate rooms banged 6 hot Dominicans in various combinations of two and a couple top performers competed for all night bigger paycheck and breakfast sessions...I look back now and kick myself at those prices not getting 3 plus me, that's on the bucket list and Costa Rica is the place to do it. :D 8)

Of course if the Beatle Bar wasn't there, we would have headed out immediately, and if the Cocal didn't exist, what's the point of heading there when just about every other CR beach is clean or somewhat clean and many are mind numbing gorgeous?

I certainly will go there, but I'll come only for a couple days and stay at Cocal or maybe one of the immediate nearby places, enjoy some blistering heat and sun and pool and cocktails with those little umbrellas and lots of greasy tanning lotion and greasy food and hot poon as well for a day or two because I'm from Florida and we still have a need for that type of fun now and then, that's the reason we came to Florida and you can't get it out of your system...but if Cocal didn't exist I would never go there, and I'll put my face in my toilet and blow bubbles over going in the ocean there. Seriously.

I have a friend that has a mind boggling mountainside ocean view small house I call a "hut" in a place called Oso something, a community of homes on a mountainside with an ocean view, Oso Village, I remember now. Nice middle class resort-retiree-vacation area with millionaire views. That's where you should go to enjoy a beach and the beauty Costa Rica offers on the Pacific side, not Jaco.

It's south of Jaco. If I wasn't a monger, and I was driving from San Jose to visit him, I would only view Jaco as a place to pull over and take a piss and crap on the side of the road, my contribution to the ambiance it already holds so well, and is quite possibly the worst Costa Rica has to offer, possible exception being, of course, Pavas and Puteranus....

Damn Natgems, you really have me reconsidering the Jaco portion of my trip. Thanks a ton for the insight. I will probably just go for one day now, feel like I need to at least go to satisfy the curiosity (and since transportation is included in my Amistad stay).

Realistically speaking I was never going to go in the ocean, but some pool time wouldn't be bad. Something I've always wished was that there was a Chica-friendly gulch hotel with an outdoor pool.

Shit, if the Del Ray poker room was more reliably open I could just pass the day time seeing some flops there.

There's a "not chica hostile" hotel with an outdoor pool. Hotel Santo Thomas. You can register a favorite. Not sure about multiple visitors.

Likewise Resort Martino but it's out by the airport. Or the Hilton Garden Inn in La Sabana.

I would happily spend a couple days at Cocal, and I used to go to a bar in the middle of town there a block or so from Beatle, that gave you a fabulous realistic hot taco for every beer you bought, I used to go to Tijuana a lot so I know the real thing, the barrio taco. Don't know if that place is still there, it was owned by a cool little old lady from California, i visited in 2003 and 2007.

My vaca in Jaco would be a continuous string of events : 1. I would hang at the Cocal Pool, reignite my Florida tan, knock down cocktail pineapple and coconut drinks with high alcohol level rum, 2. Start shoveling viagras and trip the light fantastic with some of the top lookers as they say are always there, then head over to the bar for beer n tacos to top the day off.

3. Back to hotel room, take nap. Wake up from nap, repeat steps 2., 3., next sunup repeat step 1. after delivered breakfast in bed or by the bar by the pool, continue repeating until morning of day 3 and then head home, the scenic route...
