Havent been to CR in awhile and from what Ive been reading the HDR has pretty much dried up...but I also see a lot of reports that things are still going good. I started coming to CR in 2008 and it was awesome then...Over the years Ive seen a decline in the number of girls working on a Friday or Saturday night but I have never had a problem finding something I liked ( I tend to like the Kim Kardashian type ). Is it honestly that bad now compared to a few years ago??? Jaco is cool but there isn't anything to do during the day.

It's not the same. I'm in country now. Not partaking in any activities, but I did walk through HDR and Key Largo last night. HDR is still constantly bombarding, but not nearly as many chicas. Key Largo disappointed too. The building was damn near empty last night. Two or three years ago, that place would be phucking packed for a Saturday. Not the case. The times have changed and all the fun shifted. I'd be willing to bet it is backlash from the CD thing. MP's are good from what I hear but not my thing. It is true or one big lie supported by many. HDR sold their business.
It will be hard to change their business but police have definitely stepped up patrols in the area. If the government is behind changing HDRs business model, it will change.

I've been going to the HDR since 2005, lived there 2007-2009 and visited every year since 2010-2015. My last 3 visits people were saying it's dead and indeed, some Mon, Tue and Wed nights appeared slower than I had seen before, but Thur, Fri and Sat nights were jumping, plenty to choose from and even the slow days and nights still had 3x to 4x what SL has...

Note...not dissing SL, pulled many a hottie from there and returned to my HDR room with her, food, location, owners and employees great, I just like being in the middle of the action...

I have a friend who lives there, he keeps pulling good performers, especially daytime where they aren't asking for cien. He says there's no rhyme or reason, sometimes it's slow and sometimes it's hot, but it's still the big game in town and nothing's close. :o

I'll be staying there Nov 8,9,10 and then in a nearby apt for a week, still checking the scene out, will issue a report, the girl who took my reservation said the employees know about the rumors of closing but it's nonsense, business as usual...

Thanks for the feedback....I just keep seeing contradicting reports. I get it..every man has his own views but even in 2009 I was reading negative reports and I was still having a ball in CR.

Well your in luck, there's a chica bearing a strong resemblance to Kim showing up regularly at the DelRey at night.. She always sits at the slot machines just outside the restrooms. Usually wears black; eyes & booty just like the real KimK.

not sure how much CD situation had to do w the change tbh
have no idea how many people actually know who he is outside of this type of forum
i think it would be generous to say guys who read, follow CRT and the like, represent 25% of the tourists
for sure the numbers of those guys coming to CR have fallen and im sure some of that is because of that douche
but imo its been a slow progression of change w a heavy dose of global economic downturn from 08 on
that and the fact that places like CO and DR are more appealing for a lot of the serious hobbyist guys
in the first trips of 06 or whenever i first came i saw new girls all the time
hot new girls and streams of them everywhere, colombians and dominicans, nicas and ticas
it was almost a sensory overload
now its been almost 2 years for me and i'd be willing to bet the same girls are working SL and the mps etc
there was always a new star or two plus hundreds of new faces
those days are over a long time ago, way before that preening C*ck got arrested
i recall seeing really really hot girls sitting around SL for hours and hours and not getting paid
after a while they just stop coming around
even if they get their $60 offer by the time they eat and get a taxi both ways...
its been a slow erosion of the scene and dickface was just another kick in the balls for local business
if they do actually manage to eliminate HDR as a whore haven i think that will pretty much be all she wrote
its like my local taco guy
he and i used to commiserate and laugh all the time about our travels and he just goes to TJ now
didn't have any idea about CD or what happened just says the scene has changed and he hates Jaco

Just heard from a reliable source that the HDR will be getting remodeled not closing after Halloween but they do want to make it more family friendly.

On the subject of HDR becoming a family destination...

HDR will never be "family friendly". The few families that come to San Jose stay at classy clean places like Presidente or Holiday Inn or Don Carlos and they don't have 100% occupancy. Generally, their stays are short lived because they want to go see the beautiful countryside. Since 2005 I have walked all over San Jose and for whatever reason been in those hotels as well, I never see N American moms n dads n K*ds...sometimes I see some parents with older K*ds, late teens or early 20's but even that's rare.

Why would a "family" want to stay at a hotel in a thug neighborhood with existing mongers n hoes? Are all the money making slot machines and gambling set ups going to be replaced with day care and romper rooms, a Latin themed Chucky Cheese???

How are they going to stop the mongering? Are they going to stop the girls from walking in? The immediate void of outraged mongers would not be immediately replaced with Disneyworld type travelers, besides, most ''families" have little use for San Jose, they want to see the beaches, the rain forests, the volcanos, etc.

More imbecilic unmitigated idiotic conjecture, don't fall for it.

Nothing to do in Jaco during the day?

I guess you don't like swimming, surfing, snorkeling, scuba, deep sea fishing, paragliding, riding atvs, horseback riding, mountain hiking, ropes courses, waterfalls, walking on the beach, or just having a beer and watching the chicas walk by.

I don't care for Jaco either, when I first came to CR everyone was saying it's the Fort Lauderdale of Costa Rica. Well, I'm from Ft. Lauderdale, a huge cosmopolitan world class moneyed city, so I was excited to go there. I found it to be a dirty hot humid one street town, yes, there are outdoor activities, but the place looked like a sh*t hole with some fancy condos for foreigners to me.

there was one bar in the middle of town that served these free tacos whenever you bought a beer, owned by a woman American entrepreneur, they were fantastic, and Cocal didn't exist, it was the Beatle Bar then, so those two establishments made the place worthwhile back in the day...

I'll go there to check out Cocal and get away to a sleepy beach town from the busy city, but I wouldn't want to live there...

Swimming/surfing/snorkeling/scuba in Jaco Beach?

You're a brave man.

Fort Lauderdale a "world class" city? That's a first...

P.S. Agreed, Jaco is a shithole.

I live in Ft Lauderdale, id rather live in jaco! After my 1st time to Jaco not sure i want to spend much time in SJ anymore, i loved waking up to see girls by the pool at the Cocal, ATV Tour was a blast, i swam in the ocean and the pool... SJ isnt what it used to be, Sunday at Sportsmens there were like 3 girls! :(
both is good but if i had to choose 1 or the other Jaco would probably win out...

I think the guys who come to hobby are a way way less than 25% of CR's tourists... tourism is CR's biggest industry...and most of it is eco-tourism related, parks, etc. Most never make it to San Jose or Jaco.

But we do contribute a lot of dollars.... after getting to know guys that come regularly...or that live here... I can't think of any that have not contributed a lot of money to some chica or another. We worry about cien...but cien is the least of the problems when it comes to paying out money.
