No, doggonnit! This is a SERIOUS discussion!

"Putameisterism!" Hee, hee!

Word-of-the-Day from MerriamWebster.com: "satire":

2 : trenchant wit, irony, or sarcasm used to expose and discredit vice or folly.

Hope there's no disagreement on the term even before explication above!

Ringo :D

Dickwad,
Some of us may be trying to have a serious discussion, but clearly you aren't (oh, that was sarcasm on your part! That's so funny I forgot to laugh!)

First of all, where is the "vice or folly" that you claim to be seeking to "expose and discredit". The only folly that I see around here are your pitiful and annoying attempts at humor. And the only vice I see is in what you're trying to do at my expense. What have I really done that deserves your scorn? Need I point out to you that I never even referred to any post of yours until after your nonsensical "moot" post which could only be seen as some weird attempt at mockery of me.

And as far as your "explication" (meaning to make clear), I see incredible irony that you didn't choose a far simpler and commonly used term like, let's see, "explanation" if you're really trying to "make things clear". And, sorry to dash our hope, but there is disagreement about your "explication". You conveniently left out the primary definition of satire at that site:

1 : a literary work holding up human vices and follies to ridicule or scorn

Ridicule and scorn, those are really in keeping with the spirit of CRT, NOT!(in case that escaped you, that was "sarcasm") and again what vices and follies do you seek to redress here.

Or how about this from virtualsalt.com:

"A reasonable definition of satire, then, is "a literary manner which blends a critical attitude with humor and wit to the end that human institutions or humanity may be improved. The true satirist is conscious of the frailty of institutions of man's devising and attempts through laughter not so much to tear them down as to inspire a remodeling"

I fail to see any positive intent in your so-called "satire".

To quote Jonathan Swift, the widely acknowledged master of satire"

"Yet, Malice never was his Aim;
He lash'd the Vice but spar'd the Name.
No Individual could resent,
Where Thousands equally were meant.
His Satyr points at no Defect,
But what all Mortals may correct. . . . "

"Satire is a sort of glass, wherein beholders do generally discover everybody's face but their own"--Johathan Swift

If you think any posts around here are worthy of scorn, derision or ridicule I suggest you start by looking in the mirror.

YO Linguist Lads:

This has got to be one of the funniest threads I've seen in awhile. You guys are hilarious as to trying to coin in on a descriptive name for a hobby or alter-ego that many on this forum claim to practice. I am surprised as to the deep thought analytical debate.

Let me expose the REAL ANSWER as to how MONGER came into existance. The term MONGER was started before many of you guys knew about this site......it was prior to this one. Costaricasex.com was where this coined name was eventually made aware to this site.

A well known and respected traveler of CR and poster of CRS in the early days, CRdreamin, reminded me of the person who coined the term "Monger" for it's use on the site. Dongordo and some other original posters may recall that a most favorite contributor to CR sites "TampaGringo" was the one who used the term "Monger". TampaGringo was in a league of his own and I some times wonder if he has ever looked back........probably not. Last contact, he was doing well and content.

Just a little site history. I'm surprised at how you fellows take things so seriously when it comes to subjects of this nature.

Can anyone tell me what the weather will be manana........That's serious stuff

Circus,
Unfortunately, we'll probably never be able to check that out since a lot has been lost on that board. As you might recall Rico changed software and migrated the server in March of 2003, shortly before everything started going to shit. Leaving all the posts prior to that in an archive section due to incompatible forum software. Does anyone here still have the link for that archive section and do they know if it is still up? I'm not even sure how much of the newer stuff from the spring and summer of 2003 are still there.

Anyway, while TampaGringo may have been the first one in the CR community to use that term, I kinda doubt he originated it altogether as it is fairly widespread in "mongering" communities worldwide. Or are you saying it all started in CR?

Just to bust your balls a little further here are some references that I think pre-date Tampagringo by a few years:
Timothy 1:9-10 wrote:
9 Knowing this, that the law is not made for a righteous man,but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners, forunholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, formanslayers,
10 For whoremongers, for them that defile themselves with mankind, for menstealers, for liars, for perjured persons, and if there be any other thing that iscontrary to sound doctrine
Ephesians 5:5 wrote:
5 For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.
Revelation 21:8 wrote:
But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

And none of these references sound particularly complimentary to our little HOBBY

Circus, that's very interesting about the origin of the term "monger."

Prolijo, please don't let people like me irritate you, and I hope I will take my own advice re: people who wish to irritate me.

I know you know you have the right to post whatever you like, and I know I also have also have that right / privelege ad nauseum within the limits of the administrators.

That's what forums are for.

However, beware of being overwhelmingly verbose about such a narrow topic--your major points are lost among your minutia.

YO Prolijo:
No, of course it was not all started in CR.....that's absurd.
Let me correct my statement because the wording is not right and reflective of my intent. I did not intend to state that TG invented the term "monger". More clearly that I was told that he adopted the known word and introduced it into the discussions on the CRS forum. I Hope that is more clear. In fact, I went back to my last post and replaced the word coined with used. I was informed of this by a close friend, CRdreamin, who was a member of the old board closer to it's inception. My friend did not say it was written in stone but only that he thought that was where the term found it's way on to the old site. I did not officially join until 2001. Hell, maybe Rico introduced it.

From my recollection, you are indeed correct about the prior march 2003 material being somewhat lost when Rico re-constructed the site. Sad, a lot of good material lost. Dongordo has a post from TG on his web page and it gives a good example of TG's writing and insight. If DG is available I would like to hear from him on this.

Actually I really could care less what term or terms are used in describing what members on here do with women in their spare time. WAIT A MINUTE. How about........GRUBBING FOR GIRLS. I am so with it.

To mix languages:

Prolifico verbosity is not a virtue. Get to the f-in point!

Take a class at your junior/communtiy college in business communication / writing.

Prolific assholes are laughed at / not-invited-to meetings in the business world; get to the point! We are pressured for time, stop wasting it.

Learn how to write memos: one page maximum. Here's the format:

Point:

bulleted subpoint,

bulleted subpoint,

bulleted subpoint,

Next point:

bulleted subpoint,

etc.

Got it?

At this point in time, don't ever call yourself an essayist.

Do a Google search entering "memo style" and study carefully what you come up with.

Your business will be the better for it.

Ringo,
Hows this?
    * Phuck you, up yours and go to phucking hell
    * who the Phuck do you think you are, Kate Turabian?
    * with some of your own quite lengthy AND completely nonsensical and irrelevant posts in this thread you are the last one to critique anyone's style
    * I'll write whatever hell way I want
    * if you don't like it, don't read it
    * I know from NUMEROUS public posts and private PM's that PLENTY of members appreciate what I post. Can you say the same thing, fuckwad?
Now can you just let it go. I was certainly prepared to. Like I said,

Prolijo

PS - incidentally the post from which that quote was taken, my last and only post following your prior post,
    * had only 6 "bulleted" sentences (short pithy and to the point),
    * 5.5 words/sentence,
    * 4 letters/word,
    * was written to be understood on the 4.7 grade level,
    * had a Flesch Reading Ease score of 70.5% and
    * had absolutely no reference to you (insulting, condescending or otherwise) or anything that warranted your additional commentary.
How's that for bullet points?

YO Fellows:
I thought the thread had finally ended. Ringo, it probably would have if you had not jumped in again. You guys go to your room and look at naked women photos or something. If they are any good you can share them with me.

It never ceases to amaze me! How do threads morph from the original posters intent to something so far removed the original thread is unidentifiable. Reminds me of grade school playing "telephone." Anyone remember that game? The teacher tells student #1 something (having written it down to verify what has been said) and by the time it gets "secretly" passed around the class it is wildly different!

It is a free forum, post til your hearts content. My only problem is this... if a person only looked at this threads last several posts, they would have NO idea what the original intent of the conversation was to be. I agree that I have no use for some peoples posts on the board but, hey, if that's true, I don't have to read them.

For the record, I hate the term "monger." I hate the term "whore." And I also detest the phrase "buyers market." It reduces the ladies to nothing more than a commodity traded on the Mercantile Exchange. Sorry if I have offended anyone with that. Now, what are we? I like the term "hobbyist." Most people have hobbies. Hobbies are diversions (usually) from our daily grind. Many people spend thousands of dollars collecting coins, stamps, cars etc. I spend lots of money travelling to participate in my hobby. Having said all of that, I occasionally have feelings of guilt for my participation. That guilt is felt on MANY levels that I don't want to get into on THIS thread. Maybe another.

HOBBYIST.
