This should be the CRT Theme song ... if anyone cares to put it to music!

Very clear, PVT. You simply forgot the option where the US Dollar falls into the shitter, and those 534,000 colones becomes the newest lottery winnings!!!

I've never ran across a situation where they wouldn't quote me a price and accept USD in San Jose or Jaco. The best advice I can give would be to bring lots of small bills (5s). You will be getting change in Colones and since you are breaking small bills you can use them on cheap shit to get rid of them like drinks or food etc.

Although I side with BD in the fact that I come often enough I don't mind going home with a stash of Colones cause I will be bringing them right back.

I just want to caution that outside of the gringo places (HDR/SL/SC/Z2), no one wants dollars. The tico MPs definately don't, and all prices are in local. It is easy to convert a small lump sum at Colonial Casino if you feel like a run to one of the tico places. And they convert back as well.

I do want to say that I checked the 'Currency Exchange' place in the airport (at the gate area after you have passed through Customs). The rate to go Colones to Dollars was 547. That is a 3% loss of money over using the upstairs bank at the entrance to the terminal.

On reading this thread, gotta question about this part for anyone:

I've heard in many conversations here, that: This chica at Monica's, or that chica at New Fantasy, asked for 40 usd, or 30 usd, etc..
.. so even with them quoting USD amounts, they still want to be paid colones ?

I find the chicas in the MPs will accept dollars.
For us it is better to pay in colones because chicas and MPs still use conversion rate of $1 = 500 colones.
So when they ask for $10 they are happy with 5K colones, so you gain on the transaction.
Every one is happy. :D :D :D

Sounds very logico. Thanks.
As i re-read some of those threads, I do realize that colones were in fact mentioned, and from experiented members, who elaborated on that whole situation of money and exchanged
